For this episode only, Martin E. Brooks (Deputy D.A. Chapman) gets an "Also Starring" credit on the same card with Nancy Walker (Mildred).
Commissioner McMillan (Rock Hudson) visits director George Seaton on the set of a Western film called "Showdown." George Seaton's last film as a director was in fact the Western film Showdown (1973) that starred Rock Hudson and Dean Martin. It was released in June 1973.
The movie director Mac consults is played by the real life writer/director George Seaton. Although lesser known now, Seaton was a two-time Oscar winner for best adapted screenplays, one for Miracle on 34th Street (1947), and another for The Country Girl (1954).
The scene of the ambulance racing to the ER is a recycled shot initially used when Sally was rushed to the hospital in the first season finale An Elementary Case of Murder (1972).
The hapless audience member who participated in the stage act was Tim Herbert (1917-86), a child star of vaudeville who starred in ten filmed stage revues beginning in the 1930s. Herbert later enjoyed small roles in many films and television series. His brief appearance here draws on his work in vaudeville.
