Elroy 'Crazylegs' Hirsch appears as himself in a bit part. He was an American football player, receiving the nickname "Crazylegs" for his unusual running style, a sport executive and actor. During the 1950s, Hirsch also starred in several motion pictures, including the role of Capt. Wilson on Zero Hour! (1957).
This episode reveals that the Munster's home in Mockingbird Heights must be located somewhere in the Los Angeles area seeing as that is where the Dodgers were located in 1965. The Dodgers originally were located in Brooklyn NY, but moved to L.A. for the 1958 season. This was also the same year the Giants moved from N.Y. to S.F.
The last time Herman cried was when Kukla, Fran and Ollie (1947) (KFO) was canceled. The show used puppets and was originally created for children, but soon watched by more adults than children. It did not have a script, being entirely ad-libbed, and the humor was quite tame by the standards of later comedy.
Grandpa gets worried because the last time a man talked to Herman alone, he ended up buying a second-hand Edsel. The Ford Edsel was a full-size car, introduced in 1958. Despite its innovative features, Popular Mechanics magazine, in its March 1958 issue, reported that the car had poor workmanship and other quality problems. It was finally withdrawn from the market in 1960. According to Tom Dicke ("The Edsel: Forty years as a symbol of failure". Journal of Popular Culture, 2010), the very name "Edsel" became a popular symbol for a commercial failure.
