KATIE, THE NEW LADY OF THE HOUSE.
tcchelsey22 January 2024
This episode is what made us all love Kate. As the series continued, she would take turns with Uncle Charley watching over the family, and with good reason. Steve was becoming more vulnerable as a widower, and there would be more interesting ladies his life...

Enter Anne Baxter, playing an efficient co-worker who joins Steve in completing an important project at the plant. The question looms, is it love at first sight, or something else? Katie catches on, but has to present her case to the male side of the family.

Baxter was excellent in this type of role, playing a lady with ulterior motives, a true designing woman.

Factually, upping it all a notch, her appearance may have lead to being cast next on BATMAN, playing one of the most memorable tv lady villains, Olga, Queen of the Cossacks! Anne subsequently went on to play some super bad lady roles, such as on COLUMBO.

Good writing from Paul West, the dean of classic sitcoms, such as FATHER KNOWS BEST and the DONNA REED SHOW. The trivia notes are correct; the family photo on Steve's desk does not include eldest son, Mike, his wife Sally, or Bub (WIliiam Frawley), or atleast any mention of them. The Douglas clan would continue to grow nevertheless. And wedding bells would ring for Steve, but not quite yet.

From SEASON 8 EPISODE 9 remastered color.
