- Season 1 Episode 29 Skin Deep Prologue: A woman is struck with a poker from her fireplace tools by an intruder. Pete comes into Mother's after hours, Edie is bar side playing solitaire having a few words with Pete, and the well-coiffed woman waiting on him sits at a table. Helena Mears wants Pete to find her sister Katie, saying a Lt. Jacoby recommended Pete. A florist, Floyd Landau, is reprimanding an employee, Pete walks in commenting I bet you miss Katie Mears, gets a lead name for starters, from paying for abundant flowers sent to Edie. Pete meets Ramon, pokes at his ego and how well he knew Katie, Ramon tells Pete to leave. Ramon is immediately on the phone. Laurindo Almeida is playing guitar on stage at Miguel's restaurant, Miguel greets Pete, asks about Ramon Carrado, and gets Miguel's unfavorable response and one from a woman employee, too. Ramon is in love with himself and likes chasing rich women. Ramon works the lonely-hearts club down the street, per Miguel. Two hoods follow Pete's car to the club, he talks to the proprietor, Clarissa Holt, where he threatens with the police to see her books after mentioning Ramon's name. She consents to allow him a look where he sees Ramon's name with several dates, including Katie's. Leaving the club, Pete is accosted by the two hoods, with a beating to the ground, offering advice to get another case. At the police station with Detective Harmon, as Jacoby is out on an extradition case, and Harmon is trying to figure why the sisters would go to a club. Pete goes to Mears' house, sees Ramon kiss Helena at the door and enter. Goes to Ramon's, tosses him around, inquires why have the hoods muscle him? They found Katie's body, explains to Ramon he will need a good lawyer. He admits to playing both sisters against another, but he says he didn't kill Katie. Detective Harmon agrees the murder points to Helena, she couldn't get the guy, so she had the person killed who always did. Pete sets up a sting, the florist claims Katie was there to get her check, then to Miguel's, who says she went from here to Mother's, with Mother playing along saying she cashed her check and left a few minutes ago. Pete follows Helena from Mother's to her home. She runs to the back of the house, pounding on the ground, saying you got to be here, sobbing, while she claws the place Katie was buried. Pete stands over her saying she is here Miss Mears, and leads Helena away.
