- Bedloe is told by his psychiatrist that he should change his ways and he should love the Cannonball because he having nightmares of the train. When Bedloe visits the Shadyrest Hotel, Kate is not fooled by the change in him when he says he loves that train. They find out Bedloe is planning remove old damaged tracks instead of replacing them to shut down the Cannonball, it is up to Kate to stop him.—RCW
- In demonstrating Floyd and Charley's new emergency system on the Cannonball, they are able to avert a real life emergency. That emergency - loose rails - shows that the C&FW is negligent in maintaining the track and the Cannonball. Kate writes a personal letter to the one person at the company sympathetic to their plight, the company President, Norman P. Curtis. What Kate doesn't know is that Homer Bedloe has taken over acting Presidency duties while Curtis is the hospital. What Kate also doesn't know is that Bedloe is in therapy over his nightmares about the Cannonball and Kate. He wants to ruin the train, but knows that the train will ruin him if he does so, Norman Curtis who has threatened immediate dismissal and loss of his pension if he does one thing to harm that train and Kate. So Bedloe's doctor suggests that the way for the nightmares to end is to love the train, and thus he decides to fulfill Kate's recommended fixes. Hearing the news, Kate decides to give Bedloe the benefit of the doubt by in turn treating him nicely. How long can Bedloe and Kate continue with this new "nice is the best policy" relationship, or do either have ulterior motives?—Huggo
