Quotes

  • Jiminy Glick : Hey, you won an Oscar!

    Steven Spielberg : Yes sir.

    Jiminy Glick : How come?

Steven Spielberg : [chuckles]  Why, wh... how come?

Jiminy Glick : For what film?

Steven Spielberg : I won an Oscar for "Schindler's List", and for "Saving Private Ryan".

Jiminy Glick : Oh my God! I'm telling you, had I known what you'd accomplished, I would have showered this morning!

  • Jiminy Glick : And you've made so many films, when are you gonna do the BIG one?

Steven Spielberg : [chuckles]  What do you mean, "big one"?

Jiminy Glick : Something that clicks with the public.

Steven Spielberg : Something that clicks with the public.

Jiminy Glick : I'd love to see it, 'cause I think you're good.

  • Jiminy Glick : Steven, here's the big thing. You've done so much. What is the secret to your craft? How do you sum up your special genius?

Steven Spielberg : I don't think of myself as a "genius", I think of myself as somebody that makes movies and finds scripts and tells stories. And I think, if I have any kind of a secret to my craft, it's that I've seen a lot of movies, I've watched a lot of old pictures from the 1930s and 40s and 50s.

Jiminy Glick : [looking bored]  No. Mm-hmm.

Steven Spielberg : Films by Howard Hawks.

    Jiminy Glick : Oh yeah.

Steven Spielberg : Films by, y'know, Preston Sturges and Alfred Hitchcock.

Jiminy Glick : [nodding off]  Mm-hmm...

Steven Spielberg : And so some of the greatest scripts that were ever written, some of the greatest filmmakers ever to shoot pictures.

    [Jiminy slumps into his chair]

Steven Spielberg : They all worked in the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. And I love to watch these old pictures, I look at the screen, and I screen them for myself, I go to revivals, Scorsese and I work with the Artists' Rights Foundation

[Jiminy gets out of the chair and walks to a nearby table to eat some snacks]

Steven Spielberg : to preserve these old pictures, because these films are our culture heritage, so my craft really is informed by everything I've ever seen in my entire life.

[Jiminy pours an entire bowl of snacks into his mouth]

Steven Spielberg : So I really think that... if you have an appreciation of old, old movies,

[Jiminy crawls back to his chair]

Steven Spielberg : you would probably be inspired to see a lot of the movies that they make today, so you would have seen all the pictures of Bob Zemeckis like "Forrest Gump", and, like, "Cast Away", and pictures like "Adaptation", and all the movies that are coming out from the independence.

Jiminy Glick : [mouth full of snacks]  Well that sounds really good.

[taps him with his rolled up paper]

Jiminy Glick : I wanna thank you.

Steven Spielberg : Thank you. This was an experience for me.

Jiminy Glick : And it was great.

    [breathing heavily]

Steven Spielberg : Wait wait wait, one second, one second...

[touches his index finger to Jiminy's face]

    Steven Spielberg : Okay.

Jiminy Glick : What are ya gonna do with that?

Steven Spielberg : I'm gonna do "E.T.". I'll be right here.

[his finger glows and he touches Jiminy's face]

Jiminy Glick : [shudders happily]  Thank you, Steven. Steven Spielberg: The man... of magic. Thank you!

Steven Spielberg : Thank you, Jiminy.

Jiminy Glick : [to crew]  Okay, we're gonna have to edit this.

    [off-screen crew heard laughing]

Jiminy Glick : We'll have to trim it down. Because he rambled too long.

    Steven Spielberg : God willing!
