The 2004 Draft Lottery involved wrestlers being switched from "Raw" to WWE Smackdown! (1999) or vice versa, with names being drawn from a bingo roller by either "Raw" General Manager Eric Bischoff or "SmackDown!" General Manager Paul Heyman. "SmackDown!" drafted Rene Dupree, Mark Jindrak (Marco Corleone), Triple H (Paul Levesque), Rob Van Dam, manager Teddy Long, and Spike Dudley (Matt Hyson). "Raw" drafted Shelton Benjamin, Nidia (Nidia Guenard), Rhyno (Terry Gerin) (whoever was picked received a match with World Heavyweight Champion Chris Benoit that night), Tajiri (Yoshihiro Tajiri), Edge (Adam Copeland), and Paul Heyman. After Heyman's name was drawn, he immediately quit as General Manager. That Thursday on "SmackDown!", Kurt Angle would be revealed as the new General Manager.
Chris Jericho defeated Rene Dupree. Dupree had said that he did not want his last "Raw" memory to be when "Stone Cold" Steve Austin had given him the Stone Cold Stunner the week before. After the match, Austin drove up to the ring in his ATV and gave Dupree another Stunner.
The longest match was WWE World Heavyweight Champion Eddie Guerrero defeating Triple H by disqualification, which ran 13:45. The Evolution-Booker T/Rob Van Dam match was 13:36. These were the only matches that night that exceeded the five-minute mark. Chris Benoit defeated Rhyno in 4:45. Christian (Jay Reso) (w/Trish Stratus) defeated Spike Dudley in 3:17. Jericho-Dupree ran 3:07. Kane-Rico was a mere 27 seconds long.
Kane (Glenn Jacobs) squashed Rico (Rico Constantino) (w/Miss Jackie (Jackie Gayda)) with a Chokeslam in 27 seconds. As Kane walked to the back, he told Bischoff and Heyman that he better not end up on the same show as The Undertaker (Mark Calaway) (The Undertaker is Kane's storyline "brother." They alternated between feuding with each other and teaming with each other for years.) Heyman then said, "I don't want to end up on the same show as The Undertaker."
Featured Evolution (Ric Flair and Batista (Dave Bautista)) defeating Booker T. (Booker Huffman) and Rob Van Dam for the WWE World Tag Team Titles. Booker would make his "SmackDown!" brand debut that Thursday.
