- Wishbone develops a mysterious blindness after a scary encounter with a dangerous cliff and an innocuous fall. A doctor finds no physical reason for the blindness. A psychological reaction to childhood trauma is suspected as the cause.
- Wishbone is driving his chuck wagon by a dangerous steep cliff. That scares him and causes him to get dizzy. After a minor fall from the cliff, he awakens blind! Favor takes him to the nearest town doctor who finds Wishbone to be superficially in good health -- no bruises to his body or eyes. The doctor, though, gives Favor a pamphlet describing Wishbone's possible condition -- being emotionally traumatized by an event that psychologically causes an impairment such as being crippled or blind. The pamphlet describes a case where an emotional emergency forced the patient to "forget" her impairment and to swing into action. Wishbone recalls a terrifying childhood experience where, as a prank, other kids tied him up in a high ringing bell tower. Wishbone is taken back to the cattle drive, where he fumbles about as a blind cook. However, a forest fire engulfs the drovers' camp endangering both Wishbone and Rowdy. Rowdy is knocked unconscious, leaving Wishbone alone to save them.—chipe
- The herd is moving across a high plateau with a very high vertical drop on one side. Wishbone accidentally falls off the cliff and hangs on to a bush until Rowdy and Favor rescue him. He passes out and when he awakens, he is blind. A doctor examines him but can find no physical cause for the blindness. Wishbone says high heights make him dizzy since an incident as a child when he was hung in a church belfry as a prank. The doctor is not sure but suspects the blindness might be due to a mental rather than physical cause and provides Favor with some reading on the subject. Over Rowdy's objections Favor decides on strong strong medicine for Wishbone. He gives Wishbone no quarter and pushes him hard. Wishbone has a dream about Favor leading him in a cave at midnight in the darkness. A sleep walking incident convinces Favor Wishbone can see if he tries, A storm with St. Elmo's fire and lighting cause a stampede and set the woods and camp on fire. Wishbone tries to go for water but has trouble walking in the fire. Rowdy and others are looking for Wishbone when a tree knocks Rowdy out and off his horse near Wishbone forcing Wishbone to try to rescue Rowdy.—Anonymous
