- In Phoenix, Arizona, Tod and Buz are working in blue collar jobs in construction for a large development conglomerate owned and run by David Leland Fisk, "Lee" to his friends. To replace the retirement one year down the road of a regional vice-president, company controller Terry Prentiss comes up with an idea to promote within, grooming the chosen person for the executive position, the problem being that most of the highers-up in the company are architects without true business knowledge. Seeing from Tod's resume that he has a Business degree from Yale, she decides he may be a good candidate despite he working a manual labor job. Not knowing the full extent of what Terry wants, Tod and Buz decide for various reasons that Buz will take his place in the meeting, Buz pretending to be Tod. Regardless, Terry is enamored enough with Buz after finding out his identity to place him under the initial aptitude testing. Buz' aptitude score impresses both Lee and Terry enough, that Lee offers him the management track position. But Buz realizes that aptitude and actual knowledge are two different things, which makes his decision to accept or not that much more difficult. In addition, he factors in the reason why he took the meeting with Terry in the first place: wanting to get to know her as a woman. And if this opportunity does become Buz's place in the world, what he may not realize is that it is a place that does not include Tod. Throughout the process, Buz also may not realize that others involved are working on their own ulterior motives.—Huggo
