This episode was originally scheduled to air live on October 25, 1986 but was pre-empted by 1986 World Series (1986) which was airing on NBC that same night and ended well after midnight. Lorne Michaels decided to tape the show between 1:30 and 3:00 AM and air it at a later date. This is one of the few episodes not to be broadcast live.
In Episode #1.60 (2019), Dennis Miller recounts how he told Dana Carvey and Kevin Nealon that he could write a really shitty sketch, but as long as they acted like it was highbrow during the read-through, they could get it onto the show. That sketch became "Miss Connie's Fable Nook: The Adventures of Koko".
Ron Darling of the 1986 World Series champion New York Mets appears in the cold opening in reference to the episode's pre-empting. His appearance is usually cut from the reruns.
