Peter Sarsgaard and The Strokes on Saturday Night Live
tavm14 August 2006
Anderson Cooper (Seth Meyers) asks New Orlearns mayor Ray Nagin (Finesse Mitchell) about his "chocolate city" remark with Nagin saying he meant "delicious". Jesse Jackson (Darrell Hammond) also chimes in. Senator Hillary Clinton (Amy Poehler) is asked about her "plantation" remark which she replies with what she would use for other nationalities such as "this country is run by mismanaged hedge fund" for the white people. Meyers says, "Live from New York, it's Saturday Night!" Then Don Pardo mentions the cast, host, and musical guest but on the original broadcast he mistakenly mentioned Keenan Thomson as featured player and forgot to mention musical guest The Strokes. Peter Sarsgaard is the host and mentions how in some movies he comes off as a bit creepy (demonstrated in some taped cast inserts). We then go to a pirate convention in a Holiday Inn in Milwaukee, Wis. with SAARsgaard as guest speaker. We also hear mentions of ARRby's and ARRkansas! An SNL Digital Short features a music video of Young Chuck Norris who likes to "kick, kick, kick" for fun. Next, there's a Target sketch with a distracted cashier (Kristen Wiig) and a manager (Sarsgaard) on a break. The Strokes then perform their first song. On Weekend Update, Tina Fey mentions Osama bin Laden's latest threat or perhaps "Greatest Threats", Amy Poehler mentions Nagin's "chocolate city" remark with him being the nuts in the middle, and Drew Barrymore drops by to address her appearance at the previous Golden Globes with really large sagging breasts with Tina and Amy pointing their pencils! Next comes the Fairfield Suite Inn sketch, which, in the original airing, had some gaffs like Sarsgaard hitting the TV with the picture (but not audio) coming off and seeing stagehand's head after correcting error. Not so with dress rehearsal version seen here. Next comes Gays in Space with Will Forte singing theme in place of Maya Rudolph, still in maternity leave. Next, in a spoof of Sarsgaard's Shattered Glass, Sarsgaard fires Meyers for fabricating cat stories like the one who "asassinated Jimmy Carter". The Strokes sing their next song before the host tries to sell his Peter Sarsgaard SARS guard masks! Also, a Carol sketch (Horacio Sanz sure looks awful in drag!) and an FBI eavesdropping sketch in which two old ladies (Poehler and Rachel Dratch) frustrate some agents in their wiretapping with boring stories until...well, see for yourself. Mostly amusing show though I half wish they had reaired the mistake-laden Fairfield Suite Inn sketch to see how things had gone so wrong! The Pirate convention sketch with all the words that have ARRs in them is probably the best in this episode. Worth a look for fans of all things SNL.
