This episode reveals what a monster Lionel is, but also how Lex is so rebelling against his father that he is just like him.
Clark is concerned about his parents relationship and gets Lex to help, which just makes Jonathan mad. While doing a service to the Kents, Lex has also hired people to bug his father's office. When Lex discovers his father is in the building that day, he asked it to be stopped, but they take matters into there own hands as they hold Lionel and Martha as hostages.
I especially liked the ending, after Martha and Lionel are released. You can see the pain in Lex's eyes, watching the Kent family embrace against his own broken relationship with his father. The music just intensifies it.
