An episode that concentrates on a character that we have never seen before. Detective Sergeant Davis is a veteran hardworking copper for Special Branch.
He spends too much time at work and has little time for his family which is in turmoil. His 17 year old daughter wants to get married and he objects. Davis is in danger of losing his daughter.
When Karlina Novakova, a young Czech Au Pair goes missing. Davis is asked to investigate. Karlina thought someone was following her and contacted her embassy about it.
Davis is brusque with the family Karlina worked for. They did not report her missing for five days. It is obvious that Davis sees parallels with Karlina going missing and the situation with his own daughter.
Jordan and Inman realise there is more to Karlina's disappearance. There is turmoil in Czechoslovakia with a new leadership taking over.
Moxon gets involved, he wants to keep the Czech Embassy soothed by finding Karlina. She must be important.
The episode is low key but it might had worked better if the audience were introduced to Davis before this. He teams up with Morrissey in this story, a character who has also been missing for a few stories.
It is also noticeable that the lower ranks are not keen on Jordan. It was Davis's day off. He only came to the station to drop off a file and Jordan assigned him to a missing person's case.
