Suzanne Kent's character, "Angela Matusa" wound up so memorable that the writers followed up with her with an episode the following season. In Season Two, "Angela" had dropped 100 pounds and......well, it, too, was an interesting episode, as this one was.
The program begins with references to Angela and her being one of the main voices of Bobby's answering service. You see, back in the mid '70s there were no answering phones apparently. (I can't remember, myself). Bobby, to find out if he had any calls with messages, would contact this service and a woman would read him messages. Apparently Angela not only had a good voice but was extremely nice and personal and everyone enjoyed talking to her.
To make a long story short, Alex winds up getting a date with her. Wow, Angela does not turn out to be whom Alex and the boys thought. But it isn't that she's a heavy woman, it's that her personality and attitude are the world's worst. Talk about a person with a complex!
She makes the night really tough on poor Alex......but.....like this show tended to do, it leaves on a nice note with a touching scene. Alex does and says all the right things, which is why he is the "leader" of this small group of cabbies that we laugh with every week on this great TV show.
