- Donna has given her engagement ring for re-sizing at the same place where Eric bought it.
Donna's dad Bob (Don Stark) and his partner Joanne (Mo Gaffney) are off for a weekend getaway, so Eric and Donna plan a weekend together (at Donna's house) to prove to themselves that they're adult enough to be engaged. In order to make his point, he even eats Donna's barely cooked chicken. The chicken still had blood on it. Eric is determined to prove to Red that he has been wrong about Eric his entire life. The gang is determined to throw a party at Donna's and are unforgiving when Donna refuses.
Meanwhile, a call from the jeweler makes Kitty think Red is buying her a present, but she finds out the ring is from Eric to Donna while taking 'poor orphan' Hyde shopping for a new coat. Hyde's old coat had a big tear in it. But Hyde hates his new coat, which is an Elvis-style flashy jacket that looks nothing like Hyde's style.
Hyde tries to warn Eric and Donna, but they think that Hyde has come over to convince them for the party and shoo him off. The uncooked chicken creates trouble and wants to come out. Eric cannot use the bathroom upstairs as it is under repairs and Eric won't go in front of Donna in the downstairs bathroom as he wants to preserve the mystery in their relationship. He can't go back home as he told Red he will be at Fez's for 2 days. Donna tries to convince Eric that this is what grown ups do, when they start living in the same house. He goes to Kelso's who is angry that Donna/Eric didn't allow the party. Kelso will not allow Eric into the house under any circumstances.
Kitty tries to prevent Red from finding out about the engagement. Red catches Fez in his basement and knows that Eric is spending the night with Donna. Fez blurts out the truth when Red threatens him with deportation from the USA back to his home country. Eric comes back home as he really needs to use a bathroom & Red won't allow him back in. Eric goes potty at Donna's as he can't wait anymore. Eric eventually returns him to face Red. Red keeps pushing Eric saying that he lies and keeps secrets and is immature. Kitty also adds that Eric can tell her anything, even bad things as a mother's love is unending and limitless, unless it is lied to. Eric lets it slip in anger during Red's tirade. Eric admits the truth that he and Donna are engaged. For once, Red is speechless and doesn't know what to say to Eric. Kitty pretends to be shocked as well. Eric feels a weight has been lifted off his shoulders and he goes off to meet Donna in peace. Red is livid with Eric as he believes Eric has given no thought to his future and is simply letting it slip away.
The cat's out of the bag--Donna and Eric's engagement is no longer secret. Kitty agrees to take back the jacket, when she sees Bob wearing it.
