Lost In The Shuffle of Turkeys Away
richard.fuller18 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
In this episode, Momma Carlson sends an adviser to WKRP to get his rundown of the studio. Turns out the fellow is an old friend of Andy's, who, if memory serves, wants Andy to do a radio favor or something for him, and Andy refuses. So Andy's only option is to sabotage the rundown.

Funniest bit was, we weren't included in the sabotage, so I've already spoiled the setup. Nevertheless, if you don't know to see it coming when it takes place, it is still delightful to watch unfold.

Even if I described the episode verbatim, when the sabotage begins, it will catch you off-guard.

Often times I wondered how Andy convinced Herb and especially Les to do their gaslighting, and I can only guess he told them their jobs would be in jeopardy if they didn't participate.

All of the others play along very well. Bailey and Venus have two of the best bits, but undeniably, Jennifer is the best one.

Once the adviser reports his findings to Momma Carlson, she listens intently as Andy sits innocently nearby.

When the adviser is finished, she escorts him to the door, thanking him for his work. She turns to Andy and quietly says, "you've been a very naughty boy." She knew she was done in by him. If I'm not mistaken this is the episode when she summons Hirsch to bring her a drink and put it in a peanut butter glass.

"Yes, your majesty." Well into the fourth season, of course this episode now had the show and station's reputation down pat, but while the episode was brilliantly original as was Turkeys Away, perhaps it was too clever and aired in the show's final outing.

Still, always been one of my faves.

Bailey hits it for a six!

Picture this. Selecting my Sunday afternoon show, it's finally once again WKRP IN CINCINNATI. But I warn myself, it's a gamble. WKRP is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get out. Previous episode was a hit, doubt it will do so again. Okay, so I start watching. Aw, it's old Carol Bruce. Basic golden rule with WKRP, if the episode depends heavily on a guest star (except Frank Anderson), bummer. Aw, horse-feathers, I'm getting my ass kicked. I race through it. Hate this. Baby-talking Jennifer? I'm in a bad mood. No sign of Bailey. You see, I'm a Jan Smithers fan. What did the world see in Loni Anderson? (Yeah. Stupid question. Ask Burt Reynolds...)

Finally, Bailey appears. And she's pretending to be a stoned hippie chick singing a TV commercial for Nestle... But the Shout Factory DVD doesn't have subtitles, and I'm a South African who didn't grow up with television, so I don't know that stuff. Something about a dog. It's hilarious, but I can't make out the dog's name, something like Carful. Need the name for the Quote. I love it, love it, love it, and take a long shot, I Google "Seventies Nestle commercial dog". Praise be to the glory of the Internet. Farfel. A puppet dog.

I invite everybody to view the 27-line Quote that since got accepted. One of the biggest gems I've ever given IMDb.

I love you, Jan! You were absolutely marvelous (and most, most darling) as the stoner chick version of Bailey!

Good, clean, innocent fun. From a time when the world was a much better place, and America was truly truly truly great.
