Toy Scary Boo

Warning: Spoilers
A really cool little episode, I thought it was all really well done, particularly the culprit because there were many red herrings. The actual culprit was forshadowed as suspicious but not nearly as much as some of the others. Fred and Shaggy being a team was also rather funny.

Great episode this one is!

Warning: Spoilers
Can't get enough of watching this Scooby-Doo episode even wish to go back when I first watched it.

It starts when darkened shopping mall which is ideal setting, classic music At the start, when the spacemen toys coming to life and scaring off the janitor is like some freaky version of "Toy Story".

This is one of the best episodes with interesting plot, great animation and laughs There was moment of them splitting up differently with Shaggy and Fred both awkwardly having different interests.

Also, what's brilliantly new about this episode (as I don't think it happened in any other Scooby-Doo episode) is the ingenious twist in the end when the gang try to flush out the culprit, with the four suspects they have and to get the one responsible to confess. Bit unsurprisingly, the toymaker guy Harry admits responsibility for making the living troublemaking toys and gets arrested.

And when you thought this episode was for some reason ending early, for the last three minutes, Velma (with Shaggy's help) works out the one who confessed (for taking the credit) ISN'T the actual culprit. I even knew correctly which one of the other suspects it was before the reveal and the gang outsmarted them.

Shaggy and Fred paired up. That's new.
XueHuaBingYu7 November 2019
One paragraph plot summary : Toys from a toy store come alive and scared the employees in that store. After some time, the Mystery Incorporated gang is arriving to that store because Velma has to buy a toy for her cousin. And then they learn the disturbance. As usual, they take the case and search for the clues. One by one, they find many clues. Meanwhile, the toys are chasing them. In the end, Velma makes some device to reveal the person who is responsible. Before it takes out, one person confessed and the police arrests him. When they leave the place with a doll for Velma's cousin, because of Shaggy and Scooby, Velma realises that the one they apprehended wasn't the one. So, they go back to the store and get the real person who is responsible for those disturbances.

Episode 10 is kind of a good one too. Normally, we all see that Shaggy and Scooby are in one group when they split up to look for the clues. But in this episode, Shaggy pairs up with Fred. But they are not in the same shape. So, Shaggy and Fred couldn't make a pair. Sometimes, it seems to be it's better but it's not. Old school is the best for some condition. This episode shows exactly that. That's why I love this episode.

What I love the most is that Velma realises that he wasn't the one who is responsible for those disturbances although he seemed to be. She's so clever to know that he was just taking credit for it.

All in all, Scooby-Doo episodes are presented in detective style and there are a lot of cool mysteries to solve. They are, like, so clever and the stories are pretty cool. I love every Scooby-Doo episode. I can't wait to see more of the awesome episodes.

Mystery of the living toys
TheLittleSongbird5 December 2021
"Toy Scary Boo" stuck in my mind for a long time after watching on first watch in the best of ways. Absolutely loved it on first watch, primarily the setting, the atmosphere and the ending. Also knew that the Scooby Doo franchise could already do episodes centered around toys very well, have always been quite fond of 'The New Scooby Doo Mysteries' episode "Night of the Living Toys" and 'The Scooby Doo Show's "The No Face Zombie Chase" also made good use of a toy factory setting.

Have often seen "Toy Scary Boo" cited as a fan favourite and it is not hard at all to see why. It is as brilliant as reputed and for me, and it has always been the case with me, it is easily one of the best episodes of 'What's New Scooby Doo'. Of Season 1, a season where nearly half the episodes were great, it is my very easy pick for the best episode. Between this and "Night of the Living Toys", the two are not in the same league as each other, am fond of the latter but this is quite special.

Once again, the animation is full of vibrant colour, atmosphere and rich detail. The music is never discordant with the action (which "Toy Scary Boo" is full of) and is appealing on its own as well. The intro is memorable, theme song and visuals wise. 'What's New Scooby Doo' hit more than they missed with their chase scenes and songs and this one does not disappoint.

Absolutely loved the setting as predicted, it is very nostalgic (as somebody who has always adored toys) and has the right amount of colour and creepiness. The toys are very, very eerie. The mystery is very diverting with a surprising number of red herrings, which is not something one sees a lot in the franchise. The voice acting is very good.

Much has been said of the ending whenever "Toy Scary Boo" is discussed and for very good reason. The twist is absolutely ingenious, and not just the cleverest and most shocking reveal of the show but one of the most of both adjectives of the entire franchise. One of the few endings of the franchise to leave me completely floored on first watch. The mix of old and new was a pleasure to see. The writing is very funny with Shaggy and Scooby in particular, the supporting characters are suitably colourful and eccentric and the unconventional gang pairings this time are interesting and actually work.

In short, brilliant. 10/10.
