- A member of a wealthy family hires Joe and Brian to fly to Miami to pick up the remains of the family patriarch, who died there. But because they drank a lot the night before they left, a hungover Joe picks up the wrong casket. So now the right casket must be picked up. Unable to admit their mistake, the viewing remains scheduled to proceed. Brian suggests that Joe be made up to look like the dead man and take his place in the coffin until the dead man's body arrives. While in the coffin, Joe overhears some interesting information about the man and his family.—rcs0411@yahoo.com
- Brian and Joe are charged with the task of flying to Miami and returning with the body of Harrison Kingsbury, whose family are long time benefactors of Nantucket. His daughter, Eleanor, intends to pay Joe and Brian handsomely for the job. The two pilots enthusiastically accept the job and intend to spend a night out on the town while in Miami.
On the return flight, Joe is hung over from their night of revelry. Curious about the body in the coffin, Brian opens it to find that there's a woman inside instead of a man and the two conclude Joe had signed for the wrong body in Miami. They arrive in Nantucket and Brian finds out where Kingsbury's body has been delivered; Kingsbury is in Brooklyn. Brian arranges for the body to be flown to Nantucket by a friend of his, who will then take the woman's body back to Brooklyn to the woman's own funeral.
Things become more complicated when Fay enters the office and tells them both that Mrs. Kingsbury's chauffeur has come to pick up the casket. Brian suggests they give the man an empty coffin, however, Fay points out a story in the paper that states the wake will be open casket. Though they become panicky, Fay orders them to show her the casket they have in the hangar, thinking she can disguise the woman; Kingsbury himself was something of a recluse and is virtually unrecognizable from the photo in the paper, having a long gray beard and hair. Fay quickly determines that the woman in the coffin cannot be disguised, however, Brian has an alternate plan; they will disguise Joe as Kingsbury until the body arrives in a few hours. Joe adamantly refuses but eventually agrees.
At the funeral home, with Joe in the coffin, Kingsbury's memorial services are well attended. Joe's wife, Helen, arrives with Wilson, one of Kingsbury's sons. Wilson begins to come on to Helen but is stopped when both Helen and Joe hit him. (Wilson doesn't notice that one of the blows comes from the coffin.) Helen and Joe bicker briefly; Joe is suspicious of Helen's escorting Wilson and Helen wants to know why Joe is in the coffin. Kingsbury's widow, a young and voluptuous trophy wife arrives and begins to cry over Joe. Helen leaves with her. Antonio comes to the services hoping to recoup the losses he suffered from Kingsbury when he'd previously driven the man all over Nantucket to torrents of verbal abuse and non-payment of his fare. He tries to take Joe's watch, Joe grabs his arm and Antonio faints. Brian arrives and secretly tells Joe that he has the actual body and that they'll make the switch when everyone leaves. When Eleanor suddenly announces that she'll be riding in the hearse with her father, Brian panics but promises to get Joe out.
Eleanor asks everyone to leave so she can have a private moment with her father. She bids him farewell and berates him for marrying his trophy wife and leaving everything to the woman. Eleanor also admits that, to save the family name any embarrassment, she'd sent her father a bottle of poisoned cognac. She closes the lid and begins to leave when Joe pops up and tells her to stop. Eleanor yells for someone to call the police and Joe tells everyone of her crime. Brian and Antonio come in with the real body, however the switch is now unnecessary.
