- Quotes
Lana Lang: [a quiet sunset leaves the air silent as Lana walks into Clark's barn with a bad feeling about what's coming as she slowly walks up the steps] I've climbed these steps before so many times, why do they seem steeper than ever?
Clark Kent: Thanks for coming over. I didn't want to bother you at school.
Lana Lang: Look, Clark you can spare me the speech about how sorry you are. I know you were hypnotized and you weren't in control of your actions.
Clark Kent: [With reluctance] I need to be honest with you.
Lana Lang: That would be refreshing.
Clark Kent: [Choked up] I don't know any other way to say it... but the truth is... my feelings for you have changed.
Lana Lang: [She walks over to him looking him straight in the eyes] Clark, I want you to look me in the eye and tell me you don't love me.
Clark Kent: [Clark turns to her with tears in his eyes and she looks upon him with fear] I don't love you.
Lana Lang: [Lana sits down having just had her heart crushed by the man she's loved for so long with tears in her eyes] I have waited... for you to grow up, to get over whatever hang-ups you may have.
Clark Kent: [Kneeling down in front of her] I never meant to hurt you.
Lana Lang: I don't want another Clark Kent apology.
[after pulling back her tears]
Lana Lang: It's over... forever.
[She walks out on a broken Clark staring in sadness of what he's just had to sacrifice]

An easy-on-the-eyes young woman arrives to town, and with a blue necklace that contains red-K at its center, rocks Clark's world, turning an appalled Lana away from him for possibly the final time. Surprisingly, the woman called Simone was hired by Clark to see if Clark is unusual at all. Meanwhile, Lex is in Honduras trying to discover the whereabouts of Professor Milton Fine and a virus that may be spreading from a jet-black ship that the natives are abuzz about. Finally, when a conflicted Lana goes to Clark to ask what he was doing with Simone, he ends their second relationship by saying "I don't love you."
It's interesting to see how Lex truly is becoming a traitor of his former best friend, yet that act causes Lana to draw closer to him. His motives were the engine for this episode, both in Clark's situation and Lana's feelings. The development of Milton Fine returning is also interesting, but again disappointing to see the writers occasionally dissolve to sexual material to tell their story.
