- [after the case is wrapped up, Don walks into the house to clear the air with his father]
- Don Eppes: Look, you know, I'm aware that the Bureau has some bad history.
- Alan Eppes: Is that an apology?
- Don Eppes: I'm just saying, it was a different time, you know? And I know that.
- Alan Eppes: Donnie, I'm the same guy I was then. I still believe in the same things.
- Don Eppes: Yeah, well, good.
- [Charlie enters, but sits hidden at the top of the stairs, just listening in. Alan tosses down his newspaper and sighs at Don]
- Alan Eppes: You know, when you told me you were going to join the FBI, you know -- you know what the first thought I had was?
- Don Eppes: Where did I go wrong?
- Alan Eppes: ...Honestly, yes. Because I thought you wanted to do something as different from Charlie and the rest of us as possible.
- Don Eppes: No. I knew it was something I was going to be good at.
- Alan Eppes: And you are.
- Don Eppes: Yeah.
- Alan Eppes: No, I mean it. You are, Donnie. Maybe it's because your mother and I brought you guys up to do the kind of work that really matters in this world.
- Don Eppes: And, you know, look, I didn't have to read the file, okay? Cuz I knew that, ultimately, I would respect anything that you or Mom were involved with.
- [Alan and Don exchange a look, and Alan nods, satisfied. Then, after a moment...]
- Don Eppes: ...Commie.
- Alan Eppes: G-man.
- [Don grins and laughs, Alan asks where they're going to dinner, and Charlie bounds down the stairs, happy to join them at the new Italian place]
- Alan Eppes: Hey, at least it's good to know when it comes to food, you're still both your father's sons.
