One of the best episode's of Poke'mon

Ash, Misty and Brock arrive at port of Maidens Peak. There, Brock becomes obsessed with a mysterious girl he sees on the dock who turns out to be a long deceased woman who had been turned to stone atop a cliff while waiting for her loved one to return from war. James, member of Team Rocket who had followed the three travelers, is also under the ancient maidens spell.

The plot of this episode is very unique and enjoyable. Instead of the usual storyline of almost every Poke'mon episode where Ash meets a new trainer with a new Poke'mon, which Team Rocket try to steal, thus resulting in them blasting off. In this particular show Team Rocket are given much more respect than they get in more recent episodes, which in my opinion is very deserving. They are shown battling side by side with Ash and his friends and are even partying with them at the end of the episode. The whole predicament involving the ghost of the old maiden is also very intriguing and satisfying.

Another thing I enjoyed about this episode is the relationship building between characters. When the evil ghosts are attacking our heroes we see Ash and Misty holding each other, also at the end they are seen happily dancing with each other. Also Jesse hints how much she really cares about James.

The comedy is also top notch with, as usual, Meawth delivering the best lines.

The antagonist of the episode (who turns out to be a Ghastly) is also very well depicted.

When all's said and done this is probably one of the best episodes of Pokemon and certainly one of my favourites.

Pokemon's Best Episode
metallicadude5323 March 2016
I first saw this episode when I debuted in October of 1998. I was six at the time, and I absolutely loved it.

I am now 23 years old and I just re-watched the episode...and even after nearly 18 years I still remembered everything about the episode and LOVED IT.

This episode's beautiful bittersweet melancholic tone and supernatural elements remained with me throughout my life. Maiden's Peak is one of my favorite episodes of any television show I have seen. This may sound hyperbolic, and childhood nostalgia plays a large part in my enjoyment, but I need to express my love for this episode.

Pokemon's glimpse into the realm of the supernatural
reddragonhero1727 October 2023
I've been watching this episode since it first came out, and this one of those episodes that has resonated with me as a fan, as it taps into one of Japan's most famous part of its storytelling: the supernatural. A nice ghost story within an episode makes a nice twist, though not part of the main storyline, it's nice to take a break from it. We learn early on a girl fell in love with a young man who had to fight in a war, but he never returned so she became petrified and her ghost still waits for his return. Now the ghost is out and about, our heroes, and Team Rocket have to find a way to deal with the maiden's ghost having given the allure to both Brock and James, how can they liberate them from her grasp? This episode is not only chock full of surprises, but at the same time it's both sad and haunting resonating with the viewer. I love the touches of Japanese culture put in that makes the view learn something as well.
