She Sees Sea Monsters by the Sea Shore

Warning: Spoilers
I don't understand why people seem to dislike this one, I think it's a quality episode, I suppose you could even argue it teaches a valuable lesson about protecting marine life, but dressing up as a giant underwater sea monster is not the way to do it?!

No sea monster zone
TheLittleSongbird5 December 2021
How could anybody resist an episode with such an attention grabbing tongue twister title? It is also very hard to resist any episode of Scooby Doo set on the beach with heavy use of the sea. There are other Scooby Doo episodes with this setting, such as 'Scooby Doo and Scrappy Doo's' "Twenty Thousand Screams Under the Sea" (decent but unexceptional) and 'The New Scooby and Scrappy Doo Show's' "No Sharking Zone" (one of the better episodes of that show).

"She Sees Sea Monsters by the Sea Shore" sadly doesn't live up to its great title. The premise was quite good if not the most original, but the execution was a bit of a mixed bag. Can't complain about the setting and the sea monster is what particularly elevates "She Sees Sea Monsters by the Sea Shore" to a greater level, but the story has never really properly engaged me. Worth a look definitely, but a lesser outing of a solid Season 1 of a show that has gone up in my estimations.

The animation is great, especially the water action and the design and movements of the sea monster. The setting is so nostalgic and inviting and the episode makes the absolute most of it, including seeing Daphne surf (she has got quite some skill on a surf board). The music is a good fit and has groove and atmosphere. The theme song is not too much of an earworm and the intro is creatively animated. The voice acting is fine.

One of the best aspects is the sea monster, a sea monster that is very uniquely designed and is very sinister. You know a sea villain is scary when any sudden water movement gives you the heebie jeebies. There is a nice mix of old and new, especially everything underwater which did remind me of the gang's ventures underwater in earlier shows. The writing is fun, did like Shaggy's amusing joke about Crunchy even if it was also on the corny side. The episode does start off really well and the chase song and scene are a strong example of a great song and chase scene being better than the episode they come from.

On the other hand, the story isn't really anything special outside of the promising opening. The middle feels thin and over-stretched, making for some draggy pacing, and the surprises are too few from having too many elements reminiscent of similar episodes. The only surprises really were the motive and how one sea monster attack was done that is explained in the denouement (that was very clever).

Excepting that explanation, the denouement left me mixed to negative on the whole. The perpetrator is neither obvious or shocking, but the solution did seem on the complicated side and the motive while a surprise and fairly different was a bit confused and extreme for me. Can see what the perpetrator and episode were trying to do and say here, but the lengths they go here in the episode is a pretty extreme way to put it across and seemed on the heavy handed side.

Summarising, unexceptional episode but still not at all bad. 6/10.

Different and funny even though I don't understand it that much. But it's still OK.

One paragraph plot summary : On an island in the middle of the sea, there are people who are enjoying the sea. One family among them is enjoying their time, swimming and riding a boat. Unfortunately, they meet something that is called sea monster. And it's disturbing them. After a few days, the Mystery Incorporated gang is arrived on the island, thanks to Daphne's father. While Daphne's surfing, she sees that sea monster and then, they all hear about the legend of the sea monster. To know more of it, they ask that family who has encountered the event and also, they all go to aquarium and ask more about sea turtles. When they know what they wanted to know, they start to investigate the case. By finding clues and clues, they have found the real person who is responsible for those disturbances.

This episode 9 is kind of different for me. Maybe because I'm not that kind of beach girl, so, I don't enjoy surfing and all. But the episode is funny. And also, I love to see Scooby-Doo's clever. I've never seen Scooby saves someone rather than Shaggy. So, I said it's different from the other episodes I've seen. But I don't understand the reason that much. Still, it's OK, and hence, it's a fine episode. I can't wait to see more and next episodes.
