The Martian and Chowder Club's name, seen around the 17-minute mark, is a play on that of the Westwood Marching and Chowder Club, a series of elaborate parties hosted by Bing Crosby and several of his Hollywood friends over a few years beginning in 1938. The name of the "club" was a variant of similar nonsense names of social organizations which had a vogue across the country during the 1930s.
The title is based on the American Boy Scouts of America which have been helping young boys with confidence, direction and a chance to be outdoors since 1910.
