"Tigger is the Mother of Invention" is a particularly fantastic episode

As a fan of Winnie the Pooh, 'The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh' was always one of my favourite shows as a child. Not all childhood favourites have held up, but 'The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh' is one of the strongest examples of those that have.

While the original three 60s-70s short films ('Honey Tree', 'Blustery Day' and 'Tigger Too') and the 1977 'The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh' are just a little better, 'The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh' is one of the Winnie the Pooh franchise's high points. 'The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh' is, as said a few times already, a rare example of a show with not a bad episode for the whole four seasons it ran, and has something for kids and adults alike. "The Bug Stops Here" is a hugely enjoyable episode, but "Tigger is the Mother of Invention" is in the top 10 of my favourite episodes from the show.

The animation is very bright, well drawn and colourful, everything looking lush, detailed and smooth. In addition to that, the music is playfully jaunty and beautifully orchestrated, enhancing sadder moments with poignant and particularly lush and emotional scoring, whimsical parts with an energy but also pathos and the more playful moments with a jaunty touch. The theme tune is very rousing and one of the catchiest theme songs of any animated show of the late 80s.

Writing has a perfect mix of whimsy, drollness, wit, charm and childhood innocence.

"The Bug Stops Here" has a lot of childhood innocence in the story.Once again the story is simple yet very charming, the animation and music are beautiful and the dialogue has many funny spots such as Tigger's "Don't worry Christopher Robin. We're even better at catching bugs than losing 'em", which I laugh at just knowing what the gang are letting themselves in for. Christopher Robin is loyal and very likable, Pooh is as adorable as ever and Tigger is as always hilarious. Roo and Dexter are never annoying but very cute and not in a cloying sense, also like it that they start making a mess just seconds after being left with Pooh.

Conversely, "Tigger is the Mother of Invention" is especially note-worthy, one of my first episodes of 'The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh' and has always been a favourite. Love the story, it is amusing, touching and shows that Tigger is also a genius as well as being hilarious and lovable. Also things to like are the consistently elegant animation, jaunty music and some hilarious writing, primarily "Poor Tigger's been in their all winter./ And spring./And now all summer, too./ Did we mention Winter?", "I'll never be able to show my handsome face again. TTFG. Ta ta for good/We cant let him not show his handsome face again" and "Why that floor's so clean you can eat off it!/Yes I suppose I'll have to".

Love the characters and their chemistry, and the voice acting is excellent all round, Tigger especially is superbly voiced.

Overall, one great episode and one fantastic one. 10/10 Bethany Cox
