Frightlyfully good

Warning: Spoilers
Plot; Two kids show up wanting to hire the Ghostbusters to stop the Boogieman from haunting them. While the guys play along, Egon seems especially eager to help them.

Mixing in clever laughs and genuine scares in equal measure, "The Boogieman Cometh" is a prime example of why The Real Ghostbusters is not only one of the best cartoons from the 80s, but one of the best cartoons period.

  • I know the character's cartoon counterparts look different largely due to issues of money (as in not wanting to have to pay the actors for the use of their likenesses), but I've never understood why they made Egon look like the bassist for a New Wave band.

  • I've read that the voice actors always recorded together, and it shows in the final product. It really does feel as if they're bouncing off of one another.

Busting the Boogieman

Warning: Spoilers
Warning do not see episode unless seen it.

This episode is my third favorate, this episode is sort of a dream come true for kids whom have been scared of the Boogieman legend, I loved the fact that finally we get to see the Ghostbusters, kick it's ass.

I only have one problem with the episode, the parients of the two kids. Honestly how the hell could both of them know nothing about "The Ghostbusters" have they not watched CNN or picked up a copy of USA Today or Newsweek these guys have made the headlines almost everyday now. Their ignorance of the Ghostbusters existence makes no sense.

But other than that blemish the rest is great. I really like that the Ghostbusters are helping clients that are kids for once which I find touching, helping people of all ages. Even like that we get some depth on Egon as he's had a bad experience or two with the Boogieman and that experience is part of what motivated him to becoming a Ghostbusters, it makes sense as they say what scares us is also what fascinates us.

The Boogieman monster doesn't disappoint, I really like the design of it which I'll admit I found really creepy, it reminds me of that white demon face in the film "The Exercist" . The scam of that thing sort of reminds me of Pennywise from the "It" film as it feeds on fear mainly those of kids.

Really like it when they go into the Boogieman's world which looks like a M.C. Esher and Salvador Dali painting as it's really disorienting and strange. And that foot chase with the Ghostbusters and the Boogieman was fun kinda like the video game "Portal 2" or the film "Waxwork 2: Lost in Time" as they are just going though doorway to doorway which all lead to someones home around the world; and that song playing was also really fun and fits the chase.

The theme of this episode is about facing and over coming your fear, fear really is nothing but an illusion it only has power when we believe in the illusion. We see it's not just about the two kids facing the Boogieman but also Egon himself whom is still slightly scared of him. The final confrontation is satisfying as all three face off with him and overcomeing him with their wits and helping each other out which makes them realize he's not so scary after all as all three use their best weapon against it called courage, and is the one weapon the Boogieman is powerless against.

Fear has no power over us as long as we possess courage.
