Episode 3 "My Mother, My Self"

Episode 3 "My Mother, My Self" finds Margaret awaiting an invitation from the First Lady to a luncheon with Princess Diana. Pierce tries to wrangle something on his computer but the information is 'confidential'- Margaret: "you failed!" Pierce: "I'm 10!" Margaret: "and that makes it all right?" Margaret then turns to son-in-law Theodore, whose mother doesn't like her: "I have known you for over 12 years, in that time have I ever asked you to do anything for me?" Theodore: "you asked me to marry, you know..." When Jordan, her husband's lover, fails to wheel and deal from their bed, Theodore's mother comes to the rescue, and an invitation is duly delivered...to Caitlyn. An outraged Margaret tries to downplay her daughter's sudden success, but a family dinner at home turns out to be less than civil (Bill: "we're gonna have a nice family dinner!" Sophie: "don't you think we should find a nice family first?"). Later, Bill again tries to make conversation- "Theodore, tell us about YOUR day!" Theodore: "well, thank God it's almost over!" Poor Charlotte again spends the entire show trying to avoid her employer's wrath, from the lack of an invitation to Margaret switching her allegiance from Caitlyn to Charlotte- "you're my best friend!" leaving the wide-eyed maid speechless (and once again, Theodore helps Charlotte out, picking up the mail left on the floor by the frustrated Margaret). This is the episode in which Sophie is now working in her father's office (Peter MacNicol's Bradley does not appear in this one).
