Rhoda's mother
Rrrobert17 July 2019
The second appearance of Rhoda's mother Ida is not quite as funny as her first. If you like Ida you'll like this one. Ida is the master of the backhanded compliment: even Phyllis could take lessons.

Mary and Rhoda finish dinner then both excuse themselves by saying "I've got a date". An 'after dinner' date?

We're Just Good Friends
Hitchcoc2 February 2017
Rhoda's mother (Nancy Walker) pays her a visit. She is the usual abrasive, demanding woman we are used to. That is until Phyllis and Bess show up wearing the same dress. Ida decides to start treating Rhoda as a friend and begins driving her crazy. Mary is, of course, neutral in all this and that doesn't help. There are a couple clever scenes, but it is a bit of a dud. There is one funny scene where Mary goes to the mail room and Ida ends up in Lou's office. Anyway, the whole thing is a bit blah. There is one faux pas. When Ida asks Rhoda where her date is taking her, she says "to the mountains." If you're from Minnesota, you know how absurd this comment is. Lakes, maybe, but certainly no mountains.
