Lobos (Wolves) by José Nascimento
zommscorpion8 April 2009
Excellent scenery by Jose Nascimento. Nuno Melo and Maria João Luís are a range of luxury. Catarina Wallenstein, a revelation. Amazing photography. Is heard shots. Joaquim hastily left the house of his brother. The niece Vanessa supplicates runs behind him and let that go with it. A murder happened. In constant run, the days and nights turn up. Damp to sleep in abandoned houses in pens. Love it. A history of incest. A leak of an uncle and niece fighting for carnal love between them. Advise those who want to go watch the excellent Portuguese cinema. The admirable ability of the director to shoot in extreme conditions. The film seems more worked in the scenery construction than in narrative or in the direction of actors.

Could be better
valadas5 August 2011
This movie could be much better if the narrative corresponded to the excellency of the image, the performance of the actors and actresses and the emotional weight of almost all the scenes. The last ones are even epic. But the story has lots of loose ends not very well explained and deepened. We only understand that in the beginning there was a murder (which we don't see and only watch the main characters running away from the place, uncle and niece maintaining an incestuous relationship). Then it begins their flight through the country first in a car that later is robbed to them while they stayed resting at a restaurant or something like that, forcing them to walk for a long time here and there trying to meet friends who could help them to leave the country while police is already hunting after them. The story is complicated from a certain moment on by the appearance of a young boy who is the older man's son (a paternity he ignored till then), fruit of a relationship he had many years before with a former girlfriend who now runs a bar of prostitutes or the likes of that and refuses to help the fugitives since she becomes jealous of the man's niece. The movie is rather dramatic and very well made in terms of cinematics but about a story whose plot is not very well told or revealed.
