"Keep running little one, I love fast fooo-oood!!!"
This is probably my favourite episode of this show, I think it's a decent adaptation of the book it's based on, and I really love the weird spooky atmosphere in the scenes in the old library, which I think is a superb setting for scary monster happenings, and I absolutely love the monster, I think he is damn scary for a kids show! Those big gross bulbous black eyes, wicked sharp teeth, and the sick bug eating! The guy was downright nightmarish, and I love him, he's so evil, it's so funny the way he revels in his own luxurious monstrousness!!! I also enjoy the performance of the man who plays Mortman in his human form. He's just so ~ew~, as soon as you lay eyes on the guy his softly-spoken slimy vibe is just eerie somehow, and he always comes off as unnecessarily creepy even when he's supposed to be acting normal! The actor really nailed it. I agree that the ending really does bring down the whole story, but everything that leads up to it is just lovely. Unlike most people I don't dislike the twist-ending because it's so abrupt and comes out of nowhere without any foreshadowing, I dislike it because it's so sloppy and amateurishly done. The monster forms of the parents look so cheap and just lame, and the "cherry pie" line that the dad comes out with has gotta be the cheesiest bit of schlock this side of the planet!! Awfully over the top and hammy acting from that guy, and what about that terrible little brat who 'played' the little brother!? Don't know what the hell they were thinking when they stuck him in it, must've been the kid of a producer or something.. I actually liked the girl who played Lucy, she was good, I loved her beautiful mysterious dark eyes. Short and sweet, it's over before you have the time to really start hating it, and despite its *hefty* flaws it gets the job done. I like it a lot, there's some good effective atmosphere, gross creature effects, and to it's still a fun and entertaining episode. Farewell, delicious humans!
