Although the movements are technically impressive, I'm afraid I didn't care
A young woman walks up a wind tunnel structure as the fans start to turn and she starts to lose control of her motions as the wind speed increases. Not actually filmed in a wind tunnel or indeed with any significant air movement to speak of, this film choreographs the movements of the dancer to make it look like she is losing control of her own movements. I'm not sure if they wanted to give the impression of wind but if they did then that didn't work because all the sound effects in the world wouldn't have convinced me that any wind was moving at all.
However in terms of the dance and the idea that Grove (who has such control and poise) would be losing control then technically it works well because her movements (although all her own) did appear to have a resistance to them like she is trying to do something but at the same time fighting something. It works technically well although it is not the most inspiring thing to watch. I keep stressing the word "technically" because I didn't think that was enough for the film. I couldn't get into it on this level and I needed more creativity or rhythm to it to really hook me.
Overall then this should please those into their dance who will have more respect for Grove's work and McGregor's choreography than I do, but as it was I, as a casual viewer, sat rather coldly being impressed by the technical aspects of the film but wondering where the heart of the film was. If the film really was about the idea of the person losing control, then would it not have been possible to include some emotion in Grove's character? Maybe not but certainly something was missing from it from my point of view.
