Could be the worst Catalan film ever

"La ciutat cremada" was featured in 1976, just a year after dictator Francisco Franco died. Though it was quiet a bad film (lo, it's got no comment in IMDb), it turned to be somewhat interesting as it depicted some historical events under a point of view that had been forbidden until then. You know, we enjoyed the novelty of listening Catalan at the movies, as our language had been banned for years. We enjoyed also watching some politicians and local celebrities (who returned from exile or had been once martial-courted) sharing lines with real actors. And we enjoyed, of course, our History being told as we felt it had to be told, as a separate issue from the "official" Spanish one.

Thirty years later, "Coronel Macià" shares the same baseline. But it seems that the producers haven't realized that meanwhile our world and our country have changed. Like in 1976, many politicians show up in different sequences, but now they belong to important parties and/or the Government; our History is taught at school in our own language; and so on.

Though the film was presented as a real event by the local press, it had little success among the public. It was showed in ONE theater for let's say three weeks in Barcelona, and in no other city.

As a Catalan proud of my culture, History and language, I feel deceived by this film and I hope it will never be related to our mainstream cinema.

Just forget it. Choose instead "Salvador (Puig Antich)". If you are interested in recent European History and you love cinema, you will enjoy this film.
