WaterTower Music has announced the February 3 CD and digital release of the soundtrack to the new animated adventure “The Lego® Batman Movie,” one week before the film opens in theatres on February 10. The collection features new music from Dnce, Alex Aiono, Patrick Stump, Oh, Hush! feat. Will Arnett and Jeff Lewis, Kirsten Arian, Justin Tranter, and more. The album also includes 16 of the film’s score cues by Grammy-winning composer Lorne Balfe, and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chilli Peppers) on drums.
The film’s director Chris McKay describes Balfe as “one of the most talented and versatile people I’ve ever met.”
“Chris is an encyclopedic reference for action hero films, but to him the important thing is the heart of the story, so I didn’t think of it as a comic, but as real, live action,” offers Balfe. “Every scene is amazing. After the first day working on the film,...

Last fall, it was with a small amount of irony that producer Roy Lee revealed that the long-gestating Hollywood remake of the Japanese cult hit "Battle Royale" was essentially put on the back burner due to a similar film that has since become a massive hit. "'Hunger Games' definitely took a lot of wind out of the sails because it definitely has a very similar storyline and so I’m not actually sure if any studio…I’m not even sure if before 'Hunger Games' any studio would have been able to take the creative risks you need to make the movie right and now so [making the movie] would be even harder," Lee explained. But never say die, as the edgy, violent movie may find a home on a channel favored by tweens. The La Times reports that talks are underway between CW and the reps for the Hollywood version of "Battle Royale...

One of the most prolific horror producers out there wants to share some things.
Specifically, Roy Lee, producer of the upcoming Takashi Shimizu-directed thriller 7500, sat down with Fearnet to talk about the various projects he has in development. His potential future library is like a veritable greatest hits of the horror genre, as Lee discusses everything from the American Oldboy remake (helmed by Spike Lee), upcoming iterations of The Grudge and The Ring, the status of Battle Royale, and the possibility of a Poltergeist remake. Here’s a few choice quotes:
Can you tell us anything about the approach or style you are going to take with Old Boy?
It is very similar, but we’ve added new elements to it that will throw off the audience who has seen the original. There are new characters and new situations that present themselves in a way that change the story,...

We recently spent a day on the set of 7500, the new thriller from The Grudge director Takashi Shimizu. While we can't give you any of the details on that project just yet (give us a few months), we were able to spend some time with Shimizu's long-time producer, Roy Lee. Lee spilled on a few very high-profile genre projects coming up, including Old Boy, Poltergeist, The Grudge reboot, The Ring reboot, and Battle Royale. Check out what he has to say after the jump. What do you have coming up after 7500? We are planning to shoot Old Boy in March. That should start pre-production in January. Are there any aspects of the original Old Boy that you kept, or is this completely separate? This is...

ShockTillYouDrop.com recently met with producer Roy Lee on the set of new thriller, 7500. They spoke to Lee about a number of upcoming projects including Spike Lee’s Old Boy remake and the persistent rumours of a Battle Royale remake. We are planning to shoot 'Old Boy' in March and that should start pre-production in late January. This is a brand new script by Mark Protosevich. It is very similar to the film, but Protosevich has added new elements that will throw off the audience who have seen the original movie because there are new characters and new situations that present themselves in a way that change the story but eventually go in the same direction. The ending will be something audiences--especially fans of the original movie--will be very happy with. Some may consider it a bit darker." He continued "there's going to be a different interpretation of...

Similarities to The Hunger Games may have ended plans to bring an English language version of Battle Royale to the big screen…
Lionsgate’s upcoming blockbuster adaptation of The Hunger Games isn’t short of similarities with the wonderful Japanese film and novel, Battle Royale. And it might just be that which has, for better or worse, killed off any chance of an English language Battle Royale remake.
Updating ShockTillYouDrop on his current slate of projects, producer Roy Lee has now admitted that “Hunger Games took a lot of wind out of the sails of [the Battle Royale remake], because of its similar storyline”, adding “I’m not exactly sure any studio – even before Hunger Games – would have taken the creative risks you would have needed to take to make the movie right now”.
That’s unsurprising. The basics of Battle Royale see a bunch of ninth grade school pupils in a bloody, violent fight to the death.

According to producer Roy Lee, there are remakes of "Poltergeist," "The Ring" and "The Grudge" in the works, with "Poltergeist" being the most realistic. "Battle Royale," however, will likely never be remade for Us audiences. Poltergeist: "The one I'm most excited about is a 'Poltergeist' reboot and that is probably something, hopefully, next year someone will be able to accomplish. I'm in talks with that right now, yeah, with MGM." The Grudge: "We are looking to do a new version of 'The Grudge,' we just aren't sure what exactly that will be. We've been hearing takes from writers on just what they could bring to the table for a new version, but nothing's official yet." The Ring: "We're in the same situation with 'The Ring' as we are with 'The Grudge.' We're currently hearing takes to see which direction we should go in, whether it's...

Been wondering what’s going on with Spike Lee's Oldboy remake? Producer Roy Lee, who is currently executive producing the thriller 7500 from Grudge director Takashi Shimizu, updated a few other foreign adaptations waiting in the wings, including Spike Lee's Oldboy remake. "We begin shooting in January. It's a brand-new script, but those familiar with the original version will love the ending." The script will feature new characters "to throw the audience off, but it will end up at the same conclusion." Lee is also currently hearing offers to reboot The Ring and a new version of The Grudge series and believes the U.S. adaptation of Battle Royale will depend on the success of The Hunger Games. "The Hunger Games took something...

All remakes are controversial, but I don't think any have drawn the criticism and ire of the American remake of "Oldboy." And rightfully so. Even if you go back to the source material, as has long been the plan, it's hard to imagine it being interpreted in a way that was as shocking, innovative, and thrilling as the spin Park Chan-Wook gave it. There's just nowhere to go from...that, you know?Well, producer Roy Lee hinted (and that's a generous use of the word) at what direction the remake might go, but it's interesting to note he brushes aside any of those old claims it would be based on the manga. "This is a brand new script by Mark Protosevich. It is very similar to the film, but Protosevich has added new elements that will throw off the audience who have seen the original movie because there are new...

The possibility of an American remake of South Korean revenge film Oldboy has been a worrisome thing for a few years now. But this year Spike Lee was tapped to direct [1], which immediately made the new Oldboy a more attractive, or at least a more interesting proposition. With Josh Brolin set to star [2] and Colin Firth playing the film's revenge-seeking antagonist [3], things are looking petty damn good. We know that Mark Protosevich is scripting and that he is basing his take on the existing movie, as well as on the manga that inspired it, but that he's also writing new material [4] to make this version stand on its own to some extent. We still don't have concrete details about the new ingredients, but the film's producer says that some of the new stuff is being created specifically to throw off audiences who know the original film. In an interview with...

Recently ShockTillYouDrop visted the set of CBS Films’ thriller 7500, where they were able to talk about producer Roy Lee and his upcoming projects, among them, the remakes for OldBoy and Battle Royale
It’s been known that a remake of Oldboy has been in the works, the mystery thriller based on the Korean film of the same name. Now OldBoy is getting the American treatment with Spike Lee and Josh Brolin attached to star, and Colin Firth was offered a role. But here is what Roy Lee had to say about OldBoy, “We are planning to shoot ‘Old Boy’ in March and that should start pre-production in late January,” he said. “This is a brand new script by Mark Protosevich. [1] I walked out of an early Toronto International Film Festival press screening 10 days ago ranting and raving about Frédéric Jardin's incredible French contained action thriller Sleepless Night. I posted an enthusiastic review [2] on September 12th calling it "one of the best and tightest written action thrillers I've seen in the past few years" and predicted that some lucky Hollywood studio would be developing a big budget American remake within the week. I was a little off in my prediction timeline, but ten days later The Hollywood Reporter [3] has learned that Warner Bros and Roy Lee will be producing the English-language adaptation. Lee is probably best known as the producer of some of the hotter Asian-to-American remakes of the last decade, include The Ring series, The Departed, The Grudge series, The Eye, as well as How to Train Your Dragon and Abduction. Lee has a long list of projects in...

Horror remakes are definitely the hot new trend in Hollywood and I had no idea just how many remakes were being planned until I sat down and drew up a list of as many as I could find. I stopped at 7 pages and needless to say it seems that just about every movie you can imagine is getting a remake-prequel or reboot into 3D.
Here is a pretty complete list of upcoming horror remakes as of today in alphabetical order. Note: There are a few on this list that are only in the early phases of discussion and in some cases I included franchise reboots as well.
13 Tzameti: Starting the list off 13 Tzameti is more thriller then horror but still worthy of making the list. The film which started filming in New York awhile back will star Mickey Rourke and Jason Statham. The original film is a tale of Russian roulette with gruesome outcomes.

We start the Top 7. You finish the Top 10.
With Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince opening last week, I thought I’d take a look back at my favorite book to film adaptions. This means I had to have read the book and seen the film, so I can’t weigh in on The Thin Man, though it’s one of my favorite films. I also steered clear of The Prestige because though I’ve read and enjoyed both, they’re so dissimilar it doesn’t really feel like a true adaption. Sorry, no Harry Potter film has made the list. I haven’t felt that any of the films have lived up to the books, even the most recent. But with Julie and Julia and one of my favorite books, The Time Traveler’s Wife coming out next month maybe it will change in the future.

The original Buffy was a silly early '90s flick featuring Kristy Swanson, dreamy Luke Perry as her Bf Pike, Rutger Hauer as the bad vamp about town Lothos, a post-Pee Wee Paul Reubens as one of his henchmen, and Donald Sutherland as a told-ya-so! dude named Merrick who warned her she was a predestined kicker of vampire ass. Blink-and-miss-it cameos include Hilary Swank, Ben Affleck, gossip columnist Liz Smith, David Arquette, and Ricki Lake. Really.
Now Buffy is getting a 21st century transfusion with help from the original director Fran Rubel Kuzui and producer Kaz Kuzui to create "what is being labeled a remake or relaunch, but not a sequel or prequel," according to Hollywood Reporter. So with that very oblique description in mind, it looks like this will be a sort of different incarnation of Buffy -- a different vampire "warrior" for a different generation. One with "franchise potential,...
