Feature-length documentary that stands out from the other recent titles.
The true story of a paedophile priest, his victims, their families, and the passive attitude of the American Catholic church.
Impressive documentary that seems to have crept into my local multiplex without much promotion or media exposure. Understated film-making that lets the story and its victims get the audience hooked. Very moving and sad tale featuring interviews with the abused and the abuser (it's jolting to think that I could walk past this guy in the street any day). The best scene has the first father declaring that there's no god. All of the families' stories are shocking and it's upsetting to hear them recall the abuse. The movie is in no way sensationalist but offers a well-paced and involving true story of how ordinary decent church-goers put too much faith in the local priest and trusted them with their children.
This superbly-made movie gets my vote for best of the year (so far).
