This is the first 30 minute episode in the series' history. The program was shifted from a weekly hour-long format in a post-watershed time-slot, which it had occupied for the first three seasons, into a new twice-weekly half-hour pre-watershed time-slot, following mounting popularity. The show would retain this format for the next ten years, and lose the nudity and much of the violence it was known for previously.
D.I. Galloway (John Salthouse) is mentioned, but has left the station under unknown circumstances. His departure would never be explained. In reality, Salthouse departed the role as he did not feel the show would maintain its authenticity in the new pre-watershed time-slot. Ted Roach fills in as acting D.I. for the next six episodes, until D.I. Frank Burnside (Christopher Ellison) makes his famous, permanent return to the show.
P.C. Tony Stamp is now a regular cast member, having appeared on a recurring basis in the previous season, and sporadically as an uncredited P.C. extra in the first two seasons. He would remain in the role for the next 21 years.
First appearances of Inspector Christine Frazer (Barbara Thorn) and P.C. Malcolm Haynes (Eamonn Walker).
First episode that Sgt Bob Cryer wears his Tie pin.
