This classic episode also takes place in the Cleaver's new house, which I always thought was spot on. It was the perfect fit. I think what producers Joe Connolly and Bob Mosher wanted to do was leave the old days behind and turn a corner, start fresh... Beave and Wally were growing up fast and they needed space! The house was larger, good size front and back yard and a long driveway --for extra cars and clunkers! Things to come....
This story, however, is old school with the guys getting into trouble, and all by themselves. Actually, it's kind of neat just to see Beave and Wally together and trying to figure out what to do next.
Ward takes June to a far away business meeting with him, and the sitter calls in sick. Soooo... Wally is elected to watch Beave and the house, and y'all know something in gonna' happen. Beave accidentally leaves the bathtub water running! Guess the rest...
Connolly and Mosher had to have gotten the idea from the LITTLE RASCALS or LAUREL AND HARDY, who had multiple bathtub accidents, and with lots of water. The kitchen ceiling, below the bathroom, starts to leak and the guys go into panic mode! Naturally, with Murphy's Law in play, none other than Mrs. Mondello stops by to say hello! And right on time!
OMG.
Wally to the rescue, who manages to patch things up, cleverly using a blowdryer to dry the ceiling! That actually was a good idea! No kidding. The folks come home and the coverup seems to be a success --until some plaster falls in front of June's nose!
Stay tuned, if you dare!
By the way, the second Cleaver house was very famous. The house was originally used in the Humphrey Bogart thriller, THE DESPERATE HOURS in 1955. Bogey is shot dead on what would be the Cleaver's front lawn! Watch for that movie. In later years, it would be the home of MARCUS WELBY.
Something for everybody here. Must see TV.
