. . . as one of the James Bond series production designers, Ken Adam, narrates his behind-the-scenes footage of some of these location shoots, in this case Japan and England for YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE. Mr. Adam provides a fairly specific chronology for the principal filming of TWICE, which began in Japan and finished on a humongous London-area custom-built studio set for the interior volcano climactic scenes, which were considered both expensive and spectacular in the 1960s. Director Lewis Gilbert, 2nd unit director Peter Hunt, producer Albert R. "Cubby" Broccoli, star Sean Connery, Aussie actress Diane Cilento (Mrs. Sean Connery, at the time), stunt director Bob Simmons, local Bond girls Akiko Wakabayashi and Mie Hama, and embedded journalist Alan Whicker all make appearances here, on set and off. If this quality of background footage lasted three or four hours, it would be nearly as boring as your great uncle Clyde's vacation slides. Fortunately, coming in at just under 14 minutes, it's probably worth your time.
