One of very few times that a Federation Starship is shown to be equipped with seatbelts, a commonsense precaution whose absence has long puzzled fans. Perhaps the only other time is in a deleted scene in Star Trek: Nemesis (2002), made nearly 30 years later.
The voice that James Doohan uses for the planet's master computer is the same one he used to portray the M5 multitronic unit in The Ultimate Computer (1968).
This is the first time in the show that the interior of the Enterprise's hangar deck is shown. Visible in the hangar deck are a shuttle of the same design as the Galileo & Columbus (although it has no registry number on its side), a heavy shuttle from "Mud's Passion", and the long-range shuttle Copernicus from "The Slaver".
One of only two episodes to feature both Uhura and M'Ress.
The last shot shows the Enterprise is shown apparently orbiting with the planet to the right of the ship (east to west). This is only the third time this type of orbit is shown, the first being in "Shore Leave" and the second in "Mirror, Mirror."
