Larry Hagman: J.R. Ewing

Quotes

  • Sue Ellen Shepard Ewing : I'll go to Southfork, by myself. I really don't want you there with me.

J.R. Ewing : [hesitantly]  Okay, all right, fine, you pick out anything you want, it will be fine with me.

Sue Ellen Shepard Ewing : Maybe not. Oh, I will pick out the wallpaper. But I'll also pick out a new bedroom.

J.R. Ewing : "New bedroom"? What's wrong with the old one?

Sue Ellen Shepard Ewing : You're in it.

    J.R. Ewing : What?

Sue Ellen Shepard Ewing : I want a different one. One that's apart from you.

J.R. Ewing : Separate bedrooms? Well, what the hell kind of a marriage is *that*?

Sue Ellen Shepard Ewing : The kind we're gonna have from now on. You see, J.R., I have decided that I'm moving back to Southfork. John Ross will be raised there. And I, technically, will be Mrs. J.R. Ewing. But we won't live together as husband and wife. We'll have separate bedrooms, and, uh... separate lives.

  • Katherine Wentworth : [on the street, outside Ewing Oil offices]  J.R.!

J.R. Ewing : Well, hello, Katherine. They lock you out of the office?

Katherine Wentworth : I didn't wanna go up to the office. I wanted to talk to you.

J.R. Ewing : You look like somebody popped your balloon.

Katherine Wentworth : Somebody may have. Can we go someplace else and talk?

J.R. Ewing : Well, sure, honey, let's just walk down the street here.

Katherine Wentworth : [as they walk]  How could you do anything so stupid as to end the fight for Ewing Oil?

J.R. Ewing : [chuckles]  Well now, Katherine, I don't take kindly to little girls from out of state calling me stupid.

Katherine Wentworth : What you did was stupid.

J.R. Ewing : What I did, I did for my own reasons, honey. I don't see how it affects you.

Katherine Wentworth : It affects me. Because if there's one thing that can bring Pam and Bobby back together again, it's ending that fight. You know, she went out to dinner with him last night.

J.R. Ewing : Well, one dinner does not make a marriage, my dear.

Katherine Wentworth : You wouldn't say that if you'd seen the way she was acting. She was like a girl on her first date.

J.R. Ewing : You didn't try to stop her?

Katherine Wentworth : I gave her a dozen good reasons for not seeing him, but nothing worked. One minute I thought for sure it was over between the two of them.

J.R. Ewing : Now one thing I don't want is that woman and her child back on Southfork. Can't let that happen!

Katherine Wentworth : How do you propose to stop it?

J.R. Ewing : Well, I think I can handle Pam, but for some reason,

    [with a chuckle:]

J.R. Ewing : Bobby just doesn't seem to believe what I say anymore. You're gonna have to handle him, honey.

Katherine Wentworth : How am I supposed to do that?

J.R. Ewing : [stops walking]  Lie to him. Bobby's a very trusting soul. Besides, you are a woman. And a damn good looking one too. If you can't get him in bed, honey, I don't know who could.

    Katherine Wentworth : I don't know...

J.R. Ewing : I do. If you want Bobby - and you do - you're gonna have to work to get him. We can't let those two get back together now, can we?

[gives that sly grin, walks away]
