Not for the weak at heart, but still nothing special.

Bruno, of course, "stars" Sasha Baron Cohen, the force behind Borat and acclaimed HBO show Ali G. I saw an early screening for this at the AMC. The reason why Borat worked in 2006 is simply because no one had seen anything like it before, or at least for a very long time. Bruno, for me, while funny really doesn't work in a lot of areas, simply because its nothing more than a re-hashing of Borat. Don't get me wrong, there IS a market for this. There are 18 year old kids who will love the hell out of this film, even though half of the jokes with fly over there heads at half the speed of light, not unlike Borat. There were a few times when I actually laughed out loud, and there were a couple of times when I actually found myself cowering away from the movie screen in sheer horror and disbelief, which means the film was doing its job. The problem though is that I spent most of the film just thinking "Ah come on, really?". A lot of the jokes are passé, and after seeing Borat, its simply not as shocking. I'm giving this film a 5/10, its not totally brainless, but at the same time there is nothing special here, and its Definitely not worth the 10$ to see it in a theatre. If you wait for the rental, you'll get your money's worth.
