The game was part of the failed attempt by Canadian experimental, avant-garde game designer Jeff Green and the Corel Corporation to enter the booming full motion video branch of the gaming market in the mid 1990s and revolutionize it with their interactive FMV movies. Corel and Green made only two games together - Mode and Midnight Stranger. Both had similar design and immediately fell into obscurity just like most FMV games that came out at the time did.
The game's official website had a playable on-line section called the Mode Club. The trailer for this experimental project can be unlocked within Mode (1996) (VG).
