See that headline? Yeah, I'd totally go see that movie. Sasquatchploitation is near and dear to our hearts here at Dread Central, and we're always happy to let you know about a new Bigfoot movie stomping our way.
Hannover House has acquired the exclusive, worldwide production rights to Primate, a sci-fi thriller about a cryptozoological creature that terrorizes a team of Bigfoot researchers. The property was written by Andrew Sands (Airspeed, Beyond Loch Ness) and is planned for a USA production in September.
Although story and plot details have been intentionally quarantined, Hannover House reports that Primate suggests that the creatures may be part of a surviving tribe of Gigantopithecus hominoids. This early primate, currently known only through fossil findings, towered over 8 feet in height and has been pegged as a possible identity for the legendary Bigfoot sightings.
Interest in Bigfoot and the field of cryptozoology has exploded in recent years,...

"Andrew has crafted a terrifying thriller that combines the suspense of 'Alien' with the legend of Bigfoot. We think the potential market for the film transcends the normal expectation for monster and creature features, and reaches into a mainstream audience. We're very pleased to be working with Andrew on bringing his film to life," he continued.

The destruction is going to be biblical in this weekend’s Syfy original supernatural disaster movie The Terror Beneath when seeds from the Garden of Eden unleash apocalyptic foliage upon our modern world. And to think all these years we’ve been led to believe the apple was the source of man’s downfall.
Synopsis:
Militant environmentalists Kate and Joe witness, and videotape, the rapid growth of a gigantic root system that literally begins mowing through the country like an earthquake. At the same time, government agent Jack Taylor contacts plant expert Jocelyn Snow, who discovers that her ex-colleague, Frame Marcos, is the probable source of the ancient seed that started the whole ecological disaster. Under the growing threat of massive tsunamis should the enormous root system burrow under the ocean, Jack, Jocelyn, Joe and Kate confront Frame in his compound, then return to the place where it all began,...

Much to my disappointment, Ghost Storm is not a disaster-horror hybrid about a supernatural storm cloud that rains ghostly ectoplasm which steals the souls of everyone it touches. Or is it?
No, actually, it isn’t. But doesn’t that sound like a perfect pitch for a Syfy flick? As does the actual plot of Ghost Storm, and not surprisingly, since it happens to be a Syfy original movie currently in the works.
An action packed chase led by Hal and Ashley to save the people on this small island from a strange electrical storm which is led by angry souls from a mass suicide looking for revenge.
Electrical storm? Angry souls? Mass suicide? I hope the ending involves a meteorological exorcism involving the use of Kool-Aid because that would be… I shouldn’t be giving stuff like that away for free; gotta save it for my raining ectoplasm flick.

He's given us Dinocrocs, Dinosharks, Supergators, and the now legendary Sharktopus. Next up for the great Roger Corman is Piranhaconda. Up until now the look of this Syfy monster mishmash has only been the subject of speculation, but read on and you'll get a head's up at the piranha/anaconda hybrid.
Entertainment Weekly scored the exclusive look at the head prop being used in certain scenes when Piranhaconda rears his ugly head. Is it just me, or is there more than a little similarity between the Piranhaconda head and the head of the gill-man from The Monster Squad?
Produced by Roger Corman, directed by Jim Wynorski, starring Michael Madsen and Rachel Hunter, Piranhaconda sees the mutant repto-fish wrapped up in a tale that according to EW involves "a low-budget horror movie crew, inept kidnappers, and a reptile expert battling a monstrous anaconda/piranha hybrid in the Amazon jungle." A low-budget horror movie crew?...

Utter ludicrousness arrives in the form of “Stonehenge Apocalypse”, an opportunistic made for TV outing aiming to cash in on the semi success of the considerably flashier and more glamorous “2012”. Director Paul Ziller certainly has a great deal of experience in the low budget disaster movie arena, having helmed the likes of “Solar Strike”, “Polar Storm” and the excellently titled “Ice Quake”, not to mentioned a long list of cheap creature features including “Beyond Loch Ness”, “Snakehead Terror”, “Swarmed” and more. The film has a relatively recognisable cast made up of television stars, headlined by Misha Collins (“Supernatural”), with support from Hill Harper (“CSI: NY”), Torri Higginson (“Stargate: Atlantis”) and Peter Wingfield (“Highlander: The Source”). Coming with an all important behind the Scenes featurette and trailer, the film is out now on region 2 DVD thanks to Anchor Bay Entertainment. The film follows Collins as Jacob Glaser, a formerly respected and...

While this weekend brings us the world premiere of the cinematic epic Mega Python vs. Gatoroid, Syfy is already putting out promotional clips for their next offering for February, Iron Invader, which sees Earth invaded by a alien bacteria that not only fatally infects people, it also brings a giant ironworks statue to life to go on a rampage.
Alien bacteria arrives on a meteorite and infects metal, animating a giant iron statue that goes on a killing rampage in a small town. It's up to Kavan Smith ("Stargate: Atlantis", "The 4400"), Chris Gauthier ("Eureka", "Smallville"), Nicole DeBoer ("Haven", "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine"), Paul McGillion ("Stargate: Atlantis", "Sanctuary") and Donnelly Rhodes ("Battlestar Galactica", "Charles in Charge") to save the world.
If there's one thing that cast proves, it's that if you've ever starred in a Syfy original series, then you pretty much look to have a job for life appearing in Syfy original movies.

We learned on June 21st, that an ancient prophecy has been revealed…The discovery of an Egyptian chamber beneath the coast of Maine triggers a deadly electromagnetic occurrence at Stonehenge, followed by explosive devastation at the Aztec pyramids. Something within the centuries-old stones has come alive, and a series of terrifying global catastrophes is about to be unleashed, perhaps signifying the apocalypse. Now a team of international scientists, a UK commando unit, and a conspiracy-obsessed American radio host must find a way to stop the cataclysmic power that created life on this planet before it can be reborn to destroy us all.
For centuries, Stonehenge has stood as a silent shrine to Man’s ancient history. Nobody knows for sure why it was built, or for what purpose. In the 21st century, the enigmatic monument may be the harbinger of the extinction of the entire human race! Anchor Bay Entertainment...

With "Heroes" history, that means cast members are going to be looking for work. The good news for anyone who has ever appeared on a popular genre program is that you can always count on getting work in a Syfy original movie. Next year former flying hero Adrian Pasdar will have to deal with a more earthbound horror when he enters Syfy's Garden of Evil.
So what terror awaits Pasdar in this garden of evil? It's actually an ecological disaster flick, but the disaster is being caused by monstrous plants unleashed from ancient times.

The only people who like destroying the world more than Roland Emmerich are the movie execs at Syfy, and they're always coming up with new and more preposterous ways of wreaking havoc on humanity. Syfy's latest source for our doom hails from the English countryside in the form of a Stonehenge Apocalypse, and you can witness the beginning of our demise in a new clip from the film debuting this weekend.
When a group of archaeologists dig up a human skeleton near the historical monument of Stonehenge, an ancient piece of machinery hidden beneath the bedrock is discovered. Not knowing what it could be, the workers accidentally trigger the mechanism and start a chain of events that may very well end the world as we know it.

June is going to be a busy month for DVD releases. We're going to get supernatural horrors, Italian shockers, and Sci-Fi Channel schlockers; not to mention one hell of an Asylum mocker. Here's a taste of things to come.
What better place to begin than with Lionsgate's June 16th release of Richard Friedman's Born. Starring Joan Severence, Denise Crosby, and Kane Hodder, it's another one of those demon baby in the womb horror flicks. This time out a virginal 21-year old (Alison Brie) wakes up impregnated by a demon (Hodder, of course); the demonic baby eventually overtakes her mind and sends her on a killing spree. I've come across some reviews of Born online, and let's just say most would have preferred this film to be retitled Abort. Only the best from Lionsgate.
