This was the first time this story had been filmed in its original setting, The Bahamas. A previous film had been made in Jamaica, with mountains in the background, which The Bahamas lacks.
Alfred De Marigny, one of the central characters was present during filming in The Bahamas. This was his first visit to The Bahamas, since being deported with his friend Georges de Visdelou as undesirables. This deportation came as a rider attached to the verdict by the jury at the end of the trial in 1943 for the murder of Sir Harry Oakes, at which he was acquitted.
There is a little known book "More Devil Than Saint" written by Count Alfred De Marigny and published in 1946.
