At long last, Eddie Murphy is reprising his role as street-smart cop Axel Foley in the fourth instalment of the Beverly Hills Cop franchise, which is set to hit Netflix this summer. But, it isn’t easy being a middle aged action star. It’s been nearly thirty years since we last saw Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley, and in a recent interview with People Magazine he admitted that the shoot was a “rough one”.“I did Axel Foley when I was in my 20s. I am not in my 20s anymore,” he said. At any rate, Murphy won’t be the only aged actor from the original to show up, with many of the classic Beverly Hills Cop cast members are set to join him in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley. Here’s everything we know about Beverly Hills Cop 4!

No Disney Channel Original Movie had the masses soaring and flying in quite the same way as High School Musical.
Released in 2006, the original movie starred the likes of Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale at the very start of their careers. It was the sort of smash hit that launched a mega-successful franchise and that had a positive impact on their net worth.
After working their way through classic bops like “We’re All In This Together,” the group got together for two more movies. High School Musical 3: Senior Year even got a theatrical release.
The franchise even inspired a Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, starring the likes of Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett.

Long before A24 produced Sean Durkin's emotionally obliterating drama "The Iron Claw" (read our review here), the stars at the center of the story, The Von Erichs, were wrestling royalty. It's difficult to fully encompass just how huge the Von Erich Boys were, both in size/stature and popularity. These were wrestlers so famous they appeared in commercials, had their own comic book series, and were known the world over without the assistance of national television or the internet. In fact, Durkin grew up watching old VHS tapes of Von Erich matches that took place in Texas while he was living in England. This is to say that if you know where to look, there's a hell of a lot of Von Erich merch floating out there. Autographed photos, T-shirts, bandanas, trading cards, posters, magazines, replica belts, and even the World Class Wrestling Von Erich-themed board game, are ready...

Midway through shooting Season 4 of “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” creator Tim Federle told Disney he was turning in the final script for the Disney+ musical comedy.
He recalled telling Disney+ executives, “You’re going to get to the end [of 408], and it’s going to feel like I’ve wrapped the series. And that’s on purpose,” Federle told TheWrap.
“We mutually decided in this streaming era, when so few shows even go beyond two seasons, that we might as well go out on top with a complete story rather than ending on a cliffhanger,” Federle explained. “I’m really grateful that we got to end on our terms.”
Thus marks the end of one of the most ambitious shows ever brought to streaming. “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” which dropped its final season on Wednesday, premiered in 2019 as one of Disney+’s flagship series. The...

This week, the final season of High School Musical: The Musical: The Series premiered on Disney+.
Unfortunately, Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens didn't join their co-stars from the original movies to make a cameo on the spinoff.
But that doesn't mean we didn't get any indication about where Troy and Gabriella's relationship is in 2023.
Corbin Bleu, Monique Coleman, Lucas Grabeel, Bart Johnson, Alyson Reed, and Kaycee Stroh returned to play themselves.
The group also resurrected their High School Musical roles as Chad Danforth, Taylor McKessie, Ryan Evans, Coach Jack Bolton, Ms. Darbus, and Martha Cox, respectively.
The returning faces popped up at East High to shoot High School Musical 4.
There were hopes that Efron and Hudgens would make surprise appearances for at least one scene, but it didn't happen.
The closest we got to Troy and Gabriella was a sad update about their relationship, courtesy of Corben.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for the fourth and final season of “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” now streaming on Disney+.
The Wildcats of “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” have taken their final bow.
The Disney+ extension of the popular movie musical trilogy concluded this week with an eight-episode fourth season that found its cast performing a stage — or rather, basketball court — production of 2008’s “High School Musical 3: Senior Year.” Members of that film’s original cast returned to East High to shoot the fictional “High School Musical 4: The Reunion.”
Although the original films have had a presence since the pilot episode — the series is set at the high school where the films were shot — the final season is the show’s most meta endeavor yet.

The show must go on, but for Archie and his friends, the musical isn't the light-hearted tale they want to sing about. The show was more like Kevin's projected fantasy than a grounded musical.
Based on everyone's reaction on Riverdale Season 7 Episode 14, it was clear they weren't jiving with it.
Riverdale's last musical ended its legacy with a round of original songs. However, the plots and teen drama seemed to be retreading themselves, stuck in a neverending refrain of typical Riverdale tropes.
Riverdale musicals always find a way to tie back to the main plot. Even Carrie the Musical on Riverdale Season 2 Episode 18 found a way to connect back to Cheryl's issues with Penelope and Alice's fear of potentially losing Betty.
These nods were great because they gave more weight to the lyrics and what teens were performing. "Archie the Musical" is the most meta version of this style...

It’s the crossover we’ve all been waiting for. It looks like the cast of the original “High School Musical” films and the cast of “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” will be colliding in Season 4 of the Disney+ series.
After spending the summer at camp, the Wildcats are returning to school for Season 4, only to find out that they’ll be featured extras in the long-awaited “High School Musical 4: The Reunion,” which is currently filming at their school.
And speaking of the original films, the students of East High will be returning to their roots for their fourth musical. This year, they’ll be performing “High School Musical 3: Senior Year.”
This, of course, answers the question as to why so many “HSM” alum have been spotted at East High recently, including Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens and Kaycee Stroh. While Disney hasn’t exactly confirmed...

Ashley Tisdale stuns on the red carpet. Pic credit: ©ImageCollect.com/Izumi Hasegawa/Hollywood Newswire
High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale knows a thing or two about balance. The star posted a picture that showcased her sculpted abs and her love of pizza.
The actress wore black and white patterned pants with a matching top. She left the collared shirt unbuttoned, and the black tube top she wore underneath showed off her fit figure.
Ashley smiled as she bit into a slice of pizza.
She wore her brown hair in loose waves, and her minimal makeup showed her summer glow. Her tan only emphasized her toned midriff.
The second photo showed the star in a meditative pose with her legs crossed and palms facing up. Both images showed off the actress’s collection of minimalist tattoos.

It's Sharpay and what's-his-name! Ashley Tisdale just revisited her days as a Wildcat and didn't miss a beat. The actress joined TikToker Chris Olsen for a clip on the social media app on Aug. 18 set to her character Sharpay Evans's song "I Want It All" from "High School Musical 3."
In the video, Tisdale - a regular TikTok queen - expertly lip-syncs to the lyrics she sang in the 2008 movie musical, with Olsen taking on the role of her onscreen brother, Ryan (originally portrayed by Lucas Grabeel). The song documents Sharpay's unrelenting vision of success for herself - and Ryan - as her high-school tenure comes to a close. Tisdale wrote on the clip, "Me trying to get Chris to help me with my TikTok."

Film Independent Spirit Award winner Taylour Paige just proved her triple-threat talent. The “Zola” star made her rap debut on Kendrick Lamar’s highly anticipated new album “Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers,” out May 13.
Paige is featured in the song “We Cry Together ft. Taylour Paige,” which captures an argument between a couple, voiced by Paige and Lamar. Florence Welch sings the intro to the track, which later takes on the patriarchy, politics, feminism, and gender roles.
“See, you the reason why strong women fucked up,” Paige raps (via Genius Lyrics). “Why they say it’s a man’s world, see, you the reason for Trump / You the reason we overlooked, underpaid, under-booked, under shame.”
Paige continues, “You the reason Harvey Weinstein had to see his conclusion / You the reason R. Kelly can’t recognize that he’s abusive.”

Corbin Bleu‘s getting his head back in the game as he prepares to revisit High School Musical. The star of the original franchise will appear in the third season of Disney+‘s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series (Hsmtmts for short). The actor, who played Chad Danforth in the Disney Channel Original Movies, was announced as a guest star earlier this year alongside fellow Disney Channel vets Hannah Montana‘s Jason Earles and Zombies‘ Meg Donnelly. Considering Disney+’s surrounds a group of students who attend class at East High, the school where the original High School Musical was filmed, Corbin Bleu exists in this world as himself. (Credit: Fred Hayes / © Disney Channel / Courtesy: Everett Collection) Bleu made his High School Musical debut in 2006 and appeared as Chad in the follow-up films with 2007’s High Schoool Musical 2 and 2008’s High School Musical 3: Senior Year which received a theatrical release.

The “High School Musical” franchise may be living on in series format over on Disney+, but the original performances are also finding new life on TikTok. In fact, one duo is re-creating scenes from the movie to near perfection.
Lexy Hutchinson and Crystal Hutchinson started their series on August 10, re-creating the entire “The Boys Are Back” number from “High School Musical 3: Senior Year.” And they made sure to get even the smallest details right, from Zac Efron and Corbin Bleu’s outfits to the franchise’s intricate choreography from Kenny Ortega.
In their latest video, the women performed Sharpay (Ashley Tisdale) and Ryan’s (Lucas Grabeel) version of “What I’ve Been Looking For” from the first “HSM.” And, as always, they nail it — right down to Sharpay’s sparkly wardrobe and Ryan’s bright green hat.

Ever since Disney+'s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series premiered in November 2019, we've been obsessed. We've not only fallen in love with the characters, but we've become huge fans of the cast as well. So, now that the second season has officially kicked off, we're already curious to know if it will have a third season. As fans will recall, the show actually got an early renewal before season one even premiered.
While Disney+ hasn't confirmed season three yet, we have high hopes the show will be back. Not only does it have a huge following, but the show is already setting up another season quite nicely. As the students of East High put on their spring musical this season, it seems they are bound to face a lot of complications, including a high school rivalry, relationship drama, and more in the coming episodes. In the early aughts, Kenny Ortega had directed a string of “Ally McBeal” and “Gilmore Girls” episodes, but what he really wanted was to return to making movies.
So he asked his agents to keep an eye out for a TV movie, something “under the radar” that would allow him to quietly flex his filmmaking chops as he slid behind the camera for his first feature since 1993’s “Hocus Pocus.”
The script that caught his eye, a Disney Channel Original Movie with the working title “Untitled High School Musical Project,” became a phenomenon despite Ortega’s desire to keep a low-profile.
“High School Musical” was the rare made-for-tv movie that transcended its humble origins and captivated a generation of teens and tweens when it premiered on Jan. 20, 2006. It didn’t just launch the careers Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens (known then as Vanessa Anne Hudgens), Ashley Tisdale and more. It also...

Disney Channel’s new “High School Musical” series, which is being produced for Disney’s new as-yet unnamed streaming service, has a title and a plot. As revealed on Thursday, the 10-episode series will be called “High School Musical: The Musical,” and take a meta, docu-style approach to the franchise.
In “High School Musical: The Musical,” a group of students at fictional East High stage a performance of Disney’s “High School Musical” for their winter theater production. But as they plan the on-stage drama, they create as much drama off-stage.
Per Disney, each episode will include a song from the “High School Musical” trilogy of films, as well as on original song.
Oscar and Golden Globe-nominated screenwriter and former Broadway performer Tim Federle (“Ferdinand”) is executive producer with Oliver Goldstick (“Pretty Little Liars”).

Who said the musical is dead? The last 40 years has produced box office hits out of film adaptations of Broadway smashes, original movie musicals and a few, beloved, all-time classics. Hoping to join these ranks is “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again,” opening this weekend. Here are the Top 20, highest grossing musicals of the last 40 years. (All box office figures courtesy of BoxOfficeMojo)

My eldest daughter graduated from high school this week, an event that most parents who have been through it before will understand can be stressful and emotional traumatic, for the eager graduates, of course, but for us old codgers too. For her, the promise of a new road ahead, full of uncertainty, new experiences and challenges, is exciting and frightening in close-to-equal measure. For her mom and dad, even though she’s not going to a school very far away geographically, it’s a signpost of a newfound independence that is only going to gain strength until one day (though not immediately) there will be one less chirping, shrieking, laughing voice echoing through the modest halls of our house.
And for me, it means that my first daughter may not be around as much to keep her old man happy by going with him to the movies. I took her to her first movie,...

Literary adaptions and beloved franchises abound in the incoming May arrivals to Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Netflix. Amazon alone has acquired the screen revivals of multiple classic novels, including renditions of Charlotte Bronte’s “Jane Eyre,” Charles Dickens’ “Oliver Twist,” and Agatha Christie’s “Murder on the Orient Express.”
Also coming to Amazon and Hulu this May is the entire “Rocky” franchise, while Hulu has clinched all six “A Nightmare on Elm Street” movies. Netflix, meanwhile, will add scattered saga installments, including the original “Shrek,” “Scream 2,” and “High School Musical 3: Senior Year.”
A mix of original and acquired TV shows are also set to hit the streaming services next month. The new Showtime series “Patrick Melrose,” starring Benedict Cumberbatch, will stream on Hulu, while Amazon Prime will debut its original animated series “Rocky & Bullwinkle.” Also incoming are past seasons of shows like “Scandal,” “Orphan Black,” and “Running Wild With Bear Grylls.

Who's ready for a very serious hunk of nostalgia? We're talking about a massive musical throwback. Transport yourself back to the days of The Suite Life on Deck and High School Musical 3: Senior Year and get ready to revisit Ashley Tisdale's hit of all hits, "It's Alright, It's Ok." We told you this was some serious nostalgia. Any Sharpay enthusiast can still remember those lyrics like it was 2009. That being said, when it came time for Ashley to do a Music Session on her YouTube channel, people lost their minds. She and hubby Chris French performed an acoustic version of the jam from her album Guilty Pleasure. That name could not be more fitting, by the way. In the clip, she and Chris can be seen...

10 years after the first High School Musical made stars of Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens, High School Musical 4 is happening...
The Disney Channel is set to resurrect the High School Musical series of films, as it looks to cast a fourth movie.
The first two High School Musical films – that helped make stars out of Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens – debuted on TV in the Us, with the third getting a cinema release. The last of the movies, High School Musical 3: Senior Year, was released back in 2008, but now the search is on for the cast of High School Musical 4.
This is a Disney Channel project, so it’s fair to assume this one will debut on TV as well. It’ll tell the story of the new generation of East High Wildcats, as they do battle with their rivals, the West High Knights.

'The Merry Widow' with Maurice Chevalier, Jeanette MacDonald and Minna Gombell under the direction of Ernst Lubitsch. Ernst Lubitsch movies: 'The Merry Widow,' 'Ninotchka' (See previous post: “Ernst Lubitsch Best Films: Passé Subtle 'Touch' in Age of Sledgehammer Filmmaking.”) Initially a project for Ramon Novarro – who for quite some time aspired to become an opera singer and who had a pleasant singing voice – The Merry Widow ultimately starred Maurice Chevalier, the hammiest film performer this side of Bob Hope, Jim Carrey, Adam Sandler – the list goes on and on. Generally speaking, “hammy” isn't my idea of effective film acting. For that reason, I usually find Chevalier a major handicap to his movies, especially during the early talkie era; he upsets their dramatic (or comedic) balance much like Jack Nicholson in Martin Scorsese's The Departed or Jerry Lewis in anything (excepting Scorsese's The King of Comedy...

Whatever happened to just singing and dancing?! Justin Martin, who played Donny Dion in tween favorite High School Musical 3: Senior Year, was arrested last night after allegedly getting caught up in a gunfight with police, the Boston Police Department confirmed Wednesday. Per Bpd, officers heard shots fired while on patrol in Boston's Dorchester neighborhood and saw a male suspect, later identified as the 21-year-old Martin, running with a gun in his hand. While being chased by police, Martin then allegedly pointed the gun at officers and a second man opened fire. Officers fired at Martin, who was not hit, before getting him to the ground, after which they recovered a .22-caliber handgun and took him...

<< Continued from "Weekend Report: 'Hobbit,' 'Unbroken,' 'Into the Woods' Score in Final Weekend of 2014"Playing at 2,440 theaters, Into the Woods opened to an estimated $31 million this weekend. Including its Christmas Day gross, the Disney musical has so far earned $46.1 million. That opening is generally in line with 2012's Les Miserables, which took in $48.8 million over its first four days and $27.3 million on its first weekend. The three-day weekend ranks third all-time for a musical behind High School Musical 3: Senior Year and Enchanted.Into the Woods had a lot working in its favor. The fantasy elements aligned nicely with the Disney brand, which is very popular right now on the heels of Frozen and Maleficent. The source material is also a favorite for musical theater fans, and this seemed like a reasonably faithful adaptation. It also helps that the movie had a stacked cast that included Meryl Streep,...
