I got ambushed by The Hills a few days ago by episode 2.7 and since I've taken to following the principle that should I see something from the beginning to the end, I'd rate it. A sort of civic duty, if you will. Only 8 people had rated this episode, with the User Rating of 8.0 before I cast my vote. And HALF of these people had rated this full 10/10. That demands commenting. These four people think TV *cannot* get any better than this since you can't go to 11 (except if you're in Spinal Tap). Actually, I need to rephrase that. These four people have no *capability* for judgment at all. There is a reason why - at the time of writing - over 5,000 people have given the series as a whole a User Rating of 3.4/10: this is drivel.
Comparing this episode to the preceding and following episodes reveals that they are almost like running in circles: guys and girls becoming attracted to other guys and girls and friendships being on the firing line. The entire episodes would consist of nightclub scenes and girls having verbal fights with each other (to call them arguments would be an insult to the dictionary definition for the word 'argument'), so the producers include superfluous scenes of the stars of this show at work and doing other mundane things. After four episodes, the show has not yet become painful to watch, but I expect it to get worse. At this point, this is a professionally put together program, where craftsmanship outperforms the content. I feel sad for the talented people tasked with the recording and editing of this exercise in pointlessness. It's definitely not good, yet it is not (so far) so bad it would be *unwatchable*. It just exists. And that horrifies me.
