CBS’ Blue Bloods — now with a softer lead-in — marked its 200th episode on Friday night with 7.8 million total viewers and a 0.6 rating, down 8 percent and two tenths from its Season 9 average and finale to mark its second-smallest audience ever and match its demo low. That said, the cop drama easily delivered, as it does, Friday’s largest audience.
Now opening the Eye’s night, Hawaii Five-0 (6.8 mil/0.7) was steady versus its most recent regularly scheduled episode (remember, the Season 9 finale was thrown to the time slot wolves) and it matched MacGyver‘s most recent average as the leadoff hitter. Magnum P.

Are you ready for some football? Apparently, the answer is a resounding “Yes!” as sports fans propelled the CBS broadcast of the Buffalo Bills/Detroit Lions game to the top of Friday night’s ratings. The National Football League pre-season game scored an 0.7/5 and 3.53 million viewing audience to lead a rerun heavy night.
The NFL ended the winning streak of NBC’s American Ninja Warrior, which slid to third with an 0.5/3 and 2.29 million audience, topped by ABC’s American Housewife repeat, which had an 0.5/4 and 2.87 million total. But NBC’s Dateline rallied in its 10 Pm time slot, scoring an 0.6/4 and 2.99 million audience.
The strong lead-in from American Housewife boosted ABC, as its new episode of What Would You Do? had an 0.5/3 and 3.07 million audience.
The CW aired a new episode of its Masters of Illusion, scoring an 0.2/1 and 0.87 million, a holding steady from its prior new broadcast. Also holding steady...

Ninjas are known to be stealthy, and so it is that American Ninja Warrior has sneaked up on the TV world to dominate the Friday ratings over the last few weeks.
Admittedly, the numbers come as the night is dominate by reruns (including American Ninja Warrior itself). But still, the athletic competition may be winning over some new fans for its faster, higher, stronger format. On the evening, Anw scored an 0.6/3 (up a tick from last week) and 2.66 million to take top honors in the demo wars.
That proved to be a strong lead-in for a Dateline rerun, which scored an 0.5/3 and 3.05 million audience, leading the peacock network to tie with Fox for the evening’s top honors, albeit numbers that may fluctuate once football preseason is factored out early next week.
At ABC, a special celebrating We Day, an annual series of stadium-sized youth empowerment events, scored an 0.3/2 and 1.71 million.

The summertime effect is kicking in to the Friday ratings game, and the slowdown is reflected in the lack of huge audience numbers being generated. No one show dominated the competition this week.
At ABC, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. weighed in with an 0.4/3 and 2.22 million, with the two-hour 20/20 performing strongly at 0.6/3 and a 3.66 million audience, matching its audience from two weeks ago.
An encore of NBC’s two-hour American Ninja Warrior continued to draw a healthy slice of demo, scoring an 0.6/4 and 2.86 million. That proved to be a nice lead-in for Dateline, which tied for the night’s demo lead at 0.6/4 and 3.50 million. Overall, NBC won the night’s demo race among the networks.
Fox had the 2019 Us Open Golf Tournament for three hours, bringing in an 0.4/3 and 2.20 viewers.
For CBS, Whistleblower had an 0.3/2 and 3.35 million, down a tick from its last week, with...

During the regular TV season, The CW rolls out mostly scripted dramas to win its modest slice of the Nielsen ratings pie. In the summertime though, they tend to shake things up. The littlest network airs docu-series about death, improv series, magic shows, British and Canadian imports, and under-performing, critically acclaimed original fare that couldn't quite earn its keep during the cooler months. Enter The Big Stage TV show. Does this newcomer have what it takes to draw in the active summer audience? Will The Big Stage be cancelled or renewed for season two? Stay tuned.

The CW added a 13th original series, “Two Sentence Horror Stories,” to its summer schedule Monday.
The anthology series premieres with back-to-back episodes on Aug. 8, joining 12 other shows in the network’s summer lineup. Episodes of “Two Sentence Horror Stories” will feature Nicole Kang (“Batwoman”), Jim Parrack (“Suicide Squad”) and Aleyse Shannon (“Charmed”).
Per the network, the series is inspired by the viral fan fiction of two sentence horror stories. The CW says, “These contemporary tales of horror and haunting tap into universal primal fears, filtered through the anxieties of the most connected and racially diverse generation. Despite dizzying advancements in technology, inequality, social progress, and environmental degradation… the things that haunt us are still the same.”
