Director Sam Raimi is to start filming Spider-Man 4 in February next year for release on May 6, 2011.
But one unknown that hasn't yet been resolved, and which has become something of an obsession for online showbiz sites, is whether Kirsten Dunst will return as love interest Mary Jane Watson.
Raimi was able to offer a little more information when he spoke to MTV this week, saying Dunst was keen to reprise the role but that it depended on whether she was happy with the screenplay.
Raimi said: "Kirsten? I have talked with her, and she's very excited about the possibility of it. I think I'm going to have to read the screenplay and make sure everything we've talked about is working, before I could honestly tell you absolutely how [Dunst's possible return] would go."
He added: "Right now, David Lindsay-Abaire, a New York playwright, is working on the screenplay. He says that he'll...

Hayden Christensen has been cast in a live action film adaptation of Mandrake which will be directed by Mimi Leder and produced by Omega Entertainment. Mandrake is a comic book character who is stage magician by day and crime fighter by night. According to sources the film will take a modern twist however, making Christensen an "edgy underground magician and escapologist".
I remember Mandrake from my childhood, when he appeared in the cartoon "Defenders of the Earth" alongside The Phantom and Flash Gordon fighting Ming the Merciless, ah how times change!
The synopsis is as follows:
Jackson Mandrake lives life on the edge. Working as an underground magician and escapologist, his act has grown increasingly dangerous. Following a daring escape from an SUV that has been dropped out of an aeroplane at the Burning Man Festival, he is coerced by the CIA into breaking a deep-cover agent named Xi Shing...

A new movie based on the old Hearst comic character Mandrake has been in the works for ages. The traditional incarnation was a stage magician who battled crime in his spare time between rabbit tricks, but the new version is apparently an edgy illusionist, played by... Hayden Christensen? Teen Vader will be bringing his midichlorian hocus-pocus to a new Mandrake flick, co-starring spellcheck hater Djimon Hounsou and directed by Mimi Leder (Deep Impact, The Peacemaker). And penned by a quintet...

The big-screen version of Mandrake has seen more casting changes than a movie with lots of casting changes. Okay, so there hasn’t been all that many, just a couple, actually. The film was originally supposed to star real-life magician Criss Angel, but he got bumped for Jonathan Rhys Meyers, and now according to Comingsoon, Rhys Meyer has been bumped for “Jumper” star Hayden Christensen, who will take over the lead. Also in the cast will be Djimon Hounsou (”Push”), probably playing a CIA type chasing Mandrake, the role he’s played in the last few movies. So why would the CIA be chasing Mandrake? The below synopsis explains why: Jackson Mandrake lives life on the edge. Working as an underground magician and escapologist, his act has grown increasingly dangerous. Following a daring escape from an SUV that has been dropped out of an plane at the Burning Man Festival,...

Jonathan Rhys Meyers will star as the eponymous hero of Omega Entertainment and Baldwin Entertainment Group's "Mandrake", with "The Scorpion King" helmer Chuck Russell behind the camera, the backers said Tuesday.
Billed as an updated take on the classic Hearst comic book, the Mandrake character is an extreme escape artist embroiled in international espionage.
"Mandrake" marks the first picture to result from Omega and Baldwin's first-look production deal.
Omega is financing and selling worldwide and producing together with Baldwin and Hyde Park Entertainment. The film is scheduled to shoot early next year in China and the U.S.
"This is a rare opportunity to reinvent one of the all-time classic comic book characters and create a new kind of hero for international audiences," Russell said.
BEG chief Howard Baldwin said he is pleased to be in business with Omega and Hearst in bringing "Mandrake" to the big screen.
Omega Entertainment was formed in 2006 by Markus Barmettler and Enrique Steiger, who hired former Lakeshore Entertainment president Peter Rogers as president of its operations.
