Béla Mészáros (Marcell) cannot swim. He had to learn the basics in order to perform the diving stunts when his face is visible.
The screenplay was written with particular actors in mind for the main characters. Hence there was no casting for Béla Mészáros (Marcell), Andrea Petrik (Alexa), Simon Szabó (Jet), Ferenc Elek (Guszti), and Ákos Inotay (Adrián). The other actors were chosen through a lengthy casting process.
Simon Szabó (Jet) insisted that he does his own stunt when falling 13 feet from the decorative scaffolding. He made the jump himself, with guidance from the stuntman who practiced it beforehand. He did this to surprise director Balázs Lóth, who was only told immediately before the scene was shot.
The movie was supposed to premiere on June 11, but it got pushed back due to the coronavirus lockdowns. It ended up being the first Hungarian movie to get a theatrical release after restrictions were temporarily lifted in July. Despite people being reluctant to visit theaters thus dropping overall visitation to less than a third of previous years, Pesti Balhe attracted a fairly populous audience.
