Breathtakingly beautiful.

Warning: Spoilers
Words can't truly do justice to this episode, that's just a work of absolute perfection. Everything just becomes so clear and the emotions are almost too raw and intense to be fully comprehended. Jonas and Martha, then Jonas and his dad...The writing is out of this world, and the acting is just as good. This episode will haunt me for a very, very long time. I so wish I could rate it 11 stars. If not more.

Dark's greatest masterclass forever and ever.
TheFirst0127 June 2020
If Lost had "The Constant", Dark has "An Endless Cycle." This episode hit all the right notes for me: a flashback showing what happened before Michael's death, new forged relationships with the people they should have been with since the beginning, and plot twists everywhere. This episode really showed that everything is an endless cycle, if the cycle gets destroyed it remains to be seen. For now, this is Dark's greatest episode ever unless this season has another one in store which I doubt will happen. This episode has some of the most memorable lines in the entire show. I wish I could have wrote down some of the lines that encapsulate this episode and the show perfectly. Also the deja vu's are accurate, and there is so much uncertainty with the next few episodes with the reveal at the end. How does this episode not have a 10.0 on Imdb I will never know. Does something happen in the next few episodes that will downgrade the validity of this episode? Guess I will just have to wait and see, but for now I give this episode a 10.0.

Just Wow!

Dude, what's going on with this episode?!! It was an incredible one. It's the best I've seen in years. I can't explain it. It has everything: Drama, Suspense, Romance, Betrayals, Mystery, Amazing Plots... without words. Mind blown... and as if the whole chapter wasn't enough, the last second arrives to annihilate you: POW!

Warning: Spoilers
The most focussed episode of the season. Every scene has meaning in this exploration of Jonas's quest to stop his father committing suicide, as well as catching up on when so many of the characters in June 2019 were unaware of what was going to happen. It's a masterclass in the slow building of tension. Seeing them when they're so happy and innocent just drives home the cruel inevitability of everything that happens to them. Simple things like Younger Martha and Jonas smiling at each other is heartbreaking.

One of the unforgettable moments is Older Jonas turning up at the beach just after the younger one leaves, to tell Martha they're a perfect match. It's amazing how this ties all the way back to what Martha said in Season 1, about what Jonas said by the beach.

Of course, the huge moment comes about halfway through. It's something we could have seen coming by now, but a gut punch all the same. It was kind of obvious Adam was tricking Jonas in some way by sending him to stop his father killing himself, because we know the course of time can't be changed. But I had no idea that Claudia would want to prevent him killing himself too. If she's fighting Adam, wouldn't she want Jonas to die? And when Claudia says she's seen the world without Jonas... does that mean there are parallel worlds?

The circle is round
WarBerg1111 October 2019
This is an emotional episode where everything comes together. We look back at events that happened in 2019 and start to question how Jonas can save the world from the apocalypse. It becomes even more clear that all events in the show (and even the characters) are connected and wrapped up like a firm ball of wool with only two loose ends. This show helped us to unwrap the ball, but also puts more pressure on Jonas. Do his actions in the past change the future or is the future unchangeable because the future already takes into account his redirected actions? Only time will tell.

This is one of the best hours of a netflix show you can watch. It is fantastic, because it completes our view on past events but troubles our view on what is to happen next. The slow pacing, good acting and perfect story make for a fascinating episode.

I'm stunned!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode just nailed it with such powerful drama in a new way by contrasting the past with our future knowledge. Then it also had the super thrilling complexity that makes this show so amazing.

We already see Jonas fall apart, getting more desperate over time, but it's incredibly painful seeing him watching everyone beeing happy, them in the past unknowing, his younger self included. Also it's not simply everyone was happy and all was good. We also see the Doppler parents really apart from each other, who seem to have found together by all this again in the past episodes or Ulrich and his affair starting. What truely got me was as I had to pause in the scene Claudia appeared and told him that Michael needs to die. First I thought, why shouldn't he just kill himself or stop his dad? I slowly realized that then he would never could've traveled there without his own (old) existance so it was quite impossible. He just had to accept the endless cycle once again, things falling apart in front of him. We also learned that Jonas has such a important role that he needs to live otherwise Claudia wouldn't have helped. We still don't know the goals of Adam he seems to have done it for Martha but only bc of love? What role does she play? For one scene we saw Alexander Tiedemann who seem to know at least a little bit what's coming but we still don't know what he knows and most importantly who he really is. Best episode so far! I'm excited for the rest!

Mind-blowing
an-ioannou24 August 2019
Ouaaoo!! That was the best episode I have watched in all series. To combine drama, romance, suspense, adventure and thriller in just 52 minutes, is something that never happened before. And quess what?? If this wasn't enough you have a huge surprise at the end. Boom!!!

My favorite episode of the series.

Warning: Spoilers
This episode is hauntingly good. So much unfolds in this, you get to see why Ulrich and Hannah start their affair - quoting themselves word for word from 33 years in the past. This is also your first time seeing Michael interact with his family, and to see how much he loves Jonas and that he chooses to kill himself to save him and not because he was giving up makes you feel somewhat better about it. I also thought the lake scene was iconic, 2019 Jonas blissfully unaware of Martha's feelings for him, traveling Jonas comes in and kisses her, and that's why they slept together.

Emotion

Warning: Spoilers
I guess emotion is not best word to describe the episode its only good word to describe it. Jonas and Michael scene was amazing, the shining in Jonas's eyes and the hug it literally put the tears in my eyes.

A little padding
Leofwine_draca30 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Wasn't a huge fan of this one compared to the others. The shift in timeline, going back to season one, seems a bit forced and most of it feels like padding, going over the same old ground. The one exception are the scenes involving Mikkel and Jonas, they're brilliantly conceived and executed, it's just that I don't feel we needed the rest.

I loved Dark...

Warning: Spoilers
No spoilers, I watched Season 1 twice in preparation for today, but this episode may have lost me as a fan. I guess I'll hope Season 3 gets it right. Because in my opinion Season 2 has been a disappointment.

You just can't criticise this
madshales7 July 2019
This episode is perfectly placed to allow viewers a break from the main story but also answer a question that had been established early in the first season. I want to liken it to that god-awful Stranger Things season 2 episode 7, as they both seem to try and do the same thing. The problem with the ST episode is that they place it right at the highest points of tension and it doesn't really answer any questions. This episode is my favourite of all time, possibly out of every TV programme ever, and the revelation is just completely mind-blowing.

Jonas and Martha's scene on the beach is perfect. It encapsulates everything great about Dark - writing, cinematography, acting, etc. Some of the best TV you'll find today.

Heartbreaking
awang-2780019 September 2020
Warning: Spoilers
For much of the episode we see everyone's innocence, before mikkel killed himself, before life changed. It's heartbreaking seeing everyone so happy as watchers knowing that its not going to last. And, in my opinion, the most heartbreaking scene in Dark when jonas tries to stop his father from killing himself, only to realize that he is the reason why his father kills himself. The obvious love that both have toward each other is just so incredibly heartbreaking
