The control of Gizmoduck
TheLittleSongbird3 August 2019
The previous two parts of Season 2's second arc "Super Ducktales" were well done. Did think that the second part of the arc "Frozen Assets" dealt with the new character of Fenton much better and was more creative. Fenton left me with very mixed feelings when he was first introduced, but "Frozen Assets" saw me warming to him when his idiocy was much less pronounced and he felt more important to the plot.

"Frozen Assets" saw Gizmoduck, the robot controlled by Fenton, being introduced. This was very interesting, with Gizmoduck and Fenton being so completely different in personality. This part "Full Metal Duck" starts to see him properly functioning and does it very well on the whole. Personally did think that "Frozen Assets" was the (slightly) better, more entertaining and more inventive episode, but this is almost as good and for me it's perhaps one of the better parts of the "Super Ducktales" arc.

Do think though that "Full Metal Duck" did much better at Gizmoduck trying to make a positive impact and when he is being productive, than when the suit was being gotten on and off. Getting it on especially got very repetitive and could have featured quite a bit less. One scene with Fenton and his mother goes on for far too long. Did like the TV remote one though, that was clever.

Also, the episode does rush for my liking how quickly with little reason Fenton manages to be successful in Gizmoduck's functioning when he was very inept at it a very short time before.

However, as said, did love Gizmoduck's role here and how he makes so much effort being productive. Fenton has become more likeable by now, "Full Metal Duck" doesn't focus too much or overplay his idiocy, he serves far more purpose to the story, there is far less of the whining and self-pitying that was irritating about him in "Liquid Assets" and is funnier and more endearing than when he was first introduced in that part. The bumbling is intact, but not too overtly with a heavier emphasis on the controlling of Gizmoduck, who is very interesting here and personality wise he is both likeable and flawed.

Cannot get enough of the Beagles and it's easy to appreciate Huey, Duey and Louie's good intentions. Did find myself somewhat relating to Fenton's mother, whose irrationality feels realistic. Still continue to have no problems with the animation, the vibrancy and attention to detail being great. The scoring is typically dynamic and the theme song is irresistible, the smartness in the writing remains too. The voice acting is fine, Hamilton Camp voices with a lot of spirit.

Overall, very enjoyable third part. 8/10
