If You Wanted to See Super Stuff...
Gislef1 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
...the present-day in this episode is for you. There's lot of super powers thrown around. Maybe because the focus isn't on main characters. The powers of Jack Frost, and Neutrino, and Shockwave, are a lot more interesting than those of Utopian and Paragon. Even Hutch, who has the visually impressive Rod but no powers himself, is impressive

Part of it is that Robert Maillet as the Big Man, and even Ian Quinlan as Hutch, make impressive characters. Heck, the script is filled with subtleties. Like Noah Danby as Linus, who does one part "Uh-oh, Hutch just killed my boss" and one part 'I can kinda sympathize with this guy. We did push him too far." Ditto for Morgan David Jones as Jack Frost, who brings some depth to a minor role.

The downfall is that the episode seems like so much of an offshoot from the main story that it doesn't feel that connected to the last two episodes. It's nice to see the "real world" within the Sampson main storyline, but it's not clear how it connects with the present we've seen, or the 1929 bits. The production staff hits us over the head at the beginning and end with how Hutch is George's son. But how, and why? Does Hutch have an inherent gadget-making power and the Rod is his focus? In 1929, what does the windmill have to do with anything? Is anybody interested in the "mystery" of how Utopian and the others got their powers?

Why are we the viewers supposed to care that George has lost his money? Hints keep getting dropped that George was Skyfox, and he left the Union. But so what? I assume he's going to go to the island with others and gain super powers. But what powers, and how does that connect to Hutch's abilities? And why does Hutch presumably have a hate-on against Utopian. Hutch and Chloe have a "cute meet" of sorts, but it seems rather contrived that she happens to walk right in front of a van that Hutch is driving.

Why is Hutch so big on getting revenge against Utopian? I suppose he could hold a grudge for Utopian driving Skyfox out of the Union, but it's not at all clear why George left the Union and his buddy Sheldon. Maybe it will come together by episode 8, but right now it's all cloudy and vague. If it's the basis for the whole Hutch storyline, I'd like to know what's going on now because Hutch is with us now. I don't want to find out in episode 7 or 8.

So the production crew has given us an interesting character with Hutch. And an interesting actor to watch with Ian Quinlan. But he's isolated from the main story, with nothing at this point to connect him except coincidence: he just happens to meet chloe. Why does he want to go up against a Superman expy, just to get revenge for a father who seems to have no direct connection to him?

It's an odd story. I like pretty much all the characters here, but so far they don't have any connection to what else is going on. I'd watch a show about Hutch and his crew and their shenanigans... but 'Jupiter's Legacy' isn't that show. Heck, I'd rather watch Hutch than the Sampsons... and it's not a good thing to have an episode showcasing Hutch when the show is about the Sampsons.

But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. What do you think?

Decent episode but for me it's overcomplicated and lack of action.

Warning: Spoilers
Interesting character development. Intriguing story. The flashback stuff is the best part. Very cool anti hero story as well. ( I'm assuming, I don't know what people's motives are, but he seems to have lived by the same code)

To slow....

I believe I can make the whole first season and four episodes only..

One more thing, the boys is a much better show.
